Is there a fear that they will buy them out and close the company down? I'm looking at them bringing back some hooks that they stopped making. My only fear would be going Amrican an cutting quality/cost

I just talked to 2 people from Mustad last week about hooks they stopped making. I had great Customer service, and it was actually someone that wasn't from India! They found some hooks in the wharehouse that were not on the computer to seel to me. Well, to the wholesaler, then to me.

Guys,
I don't know if Eagle Claw has all the hooks you need for your type of tying, but they do for bass jigs. With that said, Eagle Claw is re-tooling supposedly( Not sure) all of their hooks to go to needle points and I am very happy. I have some of their needle point hooks for bass jigs, and when you stick yourself, you'll cry like a little girl and draw blood quickly. I have confirmed this with an Eagle Claw rep and Shorty's Hooks. So we'll see as time goes on.

If Mustad quality goes down, from what I see coming from Eagle Claw, I would have no problem switching over.

Cadman, I use some of the lazer sharps and have no complaints from myself, or Customers. I really think this is not going to be a bad thing.

I saw where Matuzo America is (or was) located in Denver Colorado. Maybe EC has learned a trick or two from their neighbors (partners/self under another name) about sharp hooks. Just Sayin'

One of the many reasons that I buy hooks by the 1000's. If you don't have any hooks you are dead in the water. One of the problems that fisherman had during the Great Depression and WWII. Some thing I was warned about by the real old tiers that Had been around since then. You think you guys buy hooks. They had closets full!!!!

This is one of those "We shall see" things ... Tackle industry has all ways had "Buy outs" & etc .. Depends on the managment that they will have ... must have cost a bundle as Pure Fishin - Berkley was shootin for it.

J - kinda what I'm worried about must have cost a bundle!!! May drive hook prices up - might just have to buy some more jig hooks and fly hooks. Old saying "If you have them you don't need them, but if you don't have you need them" - I know in the fly hooks when they were getting ready to change over from straight numbers to the R-::: guys were buying up the old style big time. And some of the new ones didn't match the old ones. so it's a toss up but better safe than sorry.

Could be good or bad or make no difference at all. Pure Fishing is owned by the same type of company. Jarden owns a ton of brands in completely different markets. Speaking of which, doesn't Pure Fishing already have their own line of hooks? If not, I'd be surprised. They certainly have their fingers in every other pie in the fishing industry.

As for Mustad, I hope they keep the small heavy wire jig hooks they make for steelhead. Those things are tough, and there's not really much out there that's similar.

x2 on liking the Ultra Point 32833 steelhead hooks. If I had to choose one brand & style of hook for all my jigs, that would be it.

I just got a box of Mustad 34184 made entirely with rusty wire. In addition to the rejects without adequate tinning to cover, melt off the lead from bad pours and the hook underneath is a spiffy reddish brown. Maybe one reason Mustad is selling out is because their Chinese factory is a quality control failure.

Shoo - Pure fishing didn't get them an investment company did. Pure, Rapala and Berkely all lost out - they're waiting to see if all goes through with the investment company.
