So I finally took a little time this evening to tie up what I will call my version of a Stayner Ducktail Jig. This jig has been getting some interest here on the forum. Those I have seen so far look great and should do the job! I just wanted to share the "original" color that the Stayner Ducktail was tied in by the late Ruel Stayner of Twin Falls, Idaho. This fly is legendary in the lake fishing circles out west and has been fished all over the world. Anyway, let me share these with you. I would be most interested in your feedback. These are the first ones I have ever tied in jig form. Looking forward to getting them wet!

So, orange was the primary attractor color?

Do you prefer heavy wire hooks for your jigs?

Hawnjigs, you know I just purchase Jig Hooks already painted and packaged from the local Sportsmans Warehouse. These hooks are packaged as "Rick's Jig Hooks". Generally speaking, I do prefer a strong hook in my fishing style.

The original pattern called for "Hot Orange" hackle for the tail and beard on the fly. I prefer Hot Orange marabou, say, over a standard Orange color. Fish do seem to trigger on the "Hot Orange" color.

Looks great! What was the orginal body and rib material?

Muskygary, the original pattern was tied with medium olive chenille and had a gold rib of wire.

Please check out my blog link in my signature below for specific tying instructions.

Awesome talent. What fish you hunting with them?

Hookup, Rainbow Trout, Cutthroat Trout, Brook Trout, have all repeatedly taken the fly pattern fished with a sinking fly line. Smallmouth Bass just flat kill it also. Bluegill like smaller sizes. For what it is worth, I don't fly fish anymore and have fell in love with jig fishing. Therefore, I am anxious to fish these jigs for Bass and Trout.

Thanks everyone for all the positive comments. I am very humbled by your nice words of encouragement. I would like to encourage folks who would like to know the materials and tying techniques used on my jigs to visit over on my new blog site that is linked in my signature below.

Again, thanks so much for your friendship and support.
