Had take a couple of the comments from Squeakyboatcaptain's post and do a few of the 1/16oz walleye's he poured up for me yesterday.

Top Left - Sun Gold Metallic w/Silver Glitter-Clear topcoat, Top Right - Sun Gold Metallic w/Black Glitter-Clear topcoat, Bottom - Sun Gold Metallic alone. I think my oven is still too hot as the glitter isn't as "sparkly" as it outta be IMO.

Hi everybody,

waiting for rosey´s to restock their gold vain, I remembered they once had this nice sun gold metallic. Now it seems like they don´t re-stock that one. At the same time, many pics here in this thread and elsewhere have been removed so I have no direct compare to CC`s gold.

Can anybody recommend a really nice gold? I´ve found sun gold metallic elsewhere but I´m not sure if its the same and worth a shot (=transatlantic shipping). Wanted to order a few pounds at once that keep me runing on a commercial level for a while.

AtticaFish's clear candy gold over bare shiny metal is my choice as best gold option, if you want max flash. Over tin metal is spectacular, and tinned SOFT lead would be close. My personal lead-tin alloy is approx. 20-1, but 30-1 would prob be OK & more economical given the cost of tin.

AtticaFish's clear candy gold ...

Sorry to ask again, but I couldn`t find it here... Thats a recepy, right, not a source? For me its mostly about were to place the next pp order. I´m running low on a number of paints -basically single coat fluo red, gold vein and gold. Don´t want to place more than one order if I can avoid it. I´m good on clear and tin :D, so can I ask where that gold is from? And if it´s CC, hows their gold vein? same as roseys?

It is just simple candy (transparent) gold from Jann's. Pretty sure Jann's is the same as Pro-Tech paint since all their colors are listed with the same names. They sell a color listed as a solid gold also. It is a solid opaque color, but a darker gold, i consider it more of an old gold or antique gold color.

The trick with the candy gold is getting it as thin and even a coat as possible, or else it gets too dark and lumpy over the metal finish and starts to look dark/dull rather than gold. Here is a post i made explaining how i was able to get the thin layer to work. Almost plated..... It also works pretty good as a top coat over a pearl or mica base color..... but still not the same as over shiny metal. ;)

Prices went up recently for where i get powder from also. Some of the other bulk powder distributors do have colors listed as transparent or candy gold, but i have never used them so not sure on the quality or durability.

Not inexpensive though...

I have played with this color and it is OK but not quite what I am looking for. I got the leftovers from a rim coating project that looked great on a Black Olds 442 early 70's vintage. http://www.ebay.com/itm/POWDER-COAT...261?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19d7593d65

I tried it over raw heads, over white, over pearl white and over like chrome and it has nice gloss but must be clear coated with PP or it dulls, this includes Sallys as a top coat, dick nites as a top coat, both dull the finish and super glue destroys it, gotta be careful setting eyes.

I have been using transparent candy brass that I think gives good results and will try to find one and get a pic posted. Biggest issue I have with the color is it must have a PP clear coat or your will regret it.
