I'm going to order a mold for 1/32 oz. probably round head barbed. Do it has two that I'm aware of. The pro 102 and the rhb-8-32. Which would be better to buy and why.

I know the pro mold is suppose to have a smaller spru to make it easier to clean? But does it make it much harder to get good pours?

I have the regular ones and I always run a file over the sprue area. I had the barbed collar one but got tired of cutting them off, and bought the non collar, so I have both. Depends on how much you want to spend the pro's are about $8 dollars more but if you get a mold go through Zeiners unless someone is having a really good sale.

Yeah. I did the collar trimming too. The mold I have for 1/16 and 1/8 is no collar. I might have to sleep on it. Lol I really hated trimming too.

The Pro Mold, having smaller inlet gates, might need softer & cleaner lead than the RHB to pour properly. But, the Pro will have a smaller sprue break.

If you are going to be tying with the 1/32. I'd go with the Pro without a collar that Do it puts out. Buy through Zeiner's and save a few bucks, I buy several per year from them and prices are the best that I know of. Like Hawn said the sprues breaks are much smaller making it much easier to break the sprues off.

Has anyone tried filling in the space in mold that makes the collar, with high temp silicone(red permatex)?? Or something of that nature, you could then take razor blade and put small cut to accommodate hook shank. Or is it easier to just do the collar trimming? That is if the mold one has already has a collar that you don't want.

One of the guys tried filling in a cast iron mold that way and still had to do trimming. The easiest way all around is just have one mold of each.

Thanks everyone. I just ordered the pro mold from zeiners. I'll let you know how it goes.I tried finding pictures of the spru area on these pro molds but couldn't find anything. I'll post some pictures when everything gets here.

You used to be able to tell the regular molds from the pro models from the handle color. Black was always the Pro but now it seems all of them come with black handles.

I wish they'd come out with a production mold for just 1/16th horseheads!!! They have it for the pony head but not the horse.

There is a tool and die place about 20 minutes from here. I might have to see what they say about making some molds for me. I know a couple people that work there.

Got the mold today. I haven't poured with it yet. Here are a few pictures of the mold. When I pour I'll get some more pictures.

Me too. This mold calls for #6 or #8 hooks, but I have a couple #4 sickles and they fit fine. #2's would work if the eyelet slot was elongated more and a little material trimmed above the warming chamber.

I'm going to buy two separate pro molds in 1/16 and 1/8 if the larger size works as well as this 1/32 I'll sell my combination mold!

The lead I am using is very soft and if you try to hold the hook and twist off the sprue, it causes the hooks to become loose in the head.
Not with this pro mold! The sprue comes off very easy. Even holding the hook and twisting with such a small head it hasn't caused one loose hook.

I thought because the gate hole was so small I would have problems with incomplete pours, but the mold worked perfectly.

Thanks to all that recommended the pro mold.

Here are a couple pictures showing how small the gate area is.

About the only thing that warming chamber is good for is emptying your lead pot!!! Makes nice little bars to go back into the pot. Other than that I think it's useless - I warm my molds by pouring with no hooks.
