I call these mighty minnows because I did some different things with them. The top jig is a 1/32oz minnow head painted black, I tied in some white bucktail on the bottom, a little black bucktail on top and a single black saddle hackle feather tied in on each side finished off with a body of anthracite chenille. The bottom jig is a 1/32oz jig painted shad gray (smoke and white mixed), I tied arctic fox hair on as a tail and then spun a soft white grizzly hackle feather on the top portion of the tail so it would blend in with the flathead minnow chenille I used for the body.

Both should catch fish. Good job. I like the shad gray head. Do you remember the ratio of smoke and white that you used to make it?

Thanks all, I made the shad gray in a 1oz jar and it just about half of a jar of smoke with the other half white, I poured it into a 2oz jar and shook it really well and then used it and the gray came out perfect, and it was luck. I didn't care to much making it as I was kind of mad when I got the smoke as it wasn't smoke but more like a flat black so I mixed it with white and got the gray I thought I was getting with the smoke.

Keep looking at the replies and the more I look at the top jig, I'm thinking you might try painting the head the same as the bottom then tapping the black on the top and a bit of clear with some silver glitter (small glitter). As I don't have the smoke I'm gonna try mixing some black, a bit of pearl and some white to try and get your bottom color.

This should be fun!!!!!!!!!!! I have a couple of small redmans heads that he sent me and I'll try it on that. To be continued..........

Thanks for the info. I agree with you------------I was very disappointed when I saw the smoke. I was expecting it to be on the gray side. At first I thought they sent me black by mistake. I would call it soot, not smoke.

I know how you feel - I ordered Baby Bass Green and it didn't come speckled it's a solid green - CS tells me they lost the original mix ratio's and that's what's being offered now.

Gonna try mixing the gray up tonight I'll let you know how I make out

Okay SJ - These aren't cured yet and I think they'll come out different when I use the heat gun to do them, I used the grill lighter for these ones.

Fatman, if you use another tsp white instead of the pearl, you would lighten it up just a tad bit more. I know because I broke it down last night and I used black and with a 2:1 black to white it was too dark, 1:1 was a little light but when I used the smoke instead of black it was a 1:1 mix to get what I call shad gray. I don't mix as much as you do but I intend to experiment as you have put another bug in my ear, but the ones I had already done were in reponse to a need and I got the smoke thinking it would be great and it turned out to be flat black so I dumped a half a jar of white and a half jar of smoke into a bigger jar and I got my shad gray.

I learned my lesson after listening to the guys here - "Mix small amounts, you can always add more and if it doesn't work you're not out of a lot of powder" and it's the truth!!!! I'll try another tsp of white - but I really like the mix over the white pearl and I've really got to get the ProTec white!!! Jann's white just seems really thick and I've always had problems with it.

Got to pull my shiner chenille out and tie a few up!!!
