It was a chilly 29 degrees with skim ice at the north end of the lake so I thought a small jig would work best and I started with a 1/80 marabou chub on a #12 jig hook. I caught 10 crappie and two bass on the tiny jig which I tipped with a Berkley power wiggler cut in half lengthwise. It's amazing how well these little hooks hold the bigger fish. It felt good to get out after a few weeks not fishing.

I was vertical jigging around the wooden dock.I'd drop it to the bottom and very slowly bring it up by holding the line and pulling it to the side,no reeling and drop it back. Most fish were caught on the rise and all you would feel is a little weight when they bit. Sunshine was a blessing, temp when I left was 39.All fish were released.

Good report and nice catch on the small jigs. It is amazing that the bass will hit a small jig. I always catch a few each time out. Congrats..

Nice bonus, did you think the first bass was a monster slab?

Were the vertical slots in the railing made for fishing?

Hawn, I was hoping it was a slab but after about 10 seconds I was sure it was a bass even though it didn't jump. I think the vertical slots were made for fishing, there's one on each side but none in the front although there are two spots that are like the sides but someone didn't cut the top piece.Someone got lazy I assume. I've been tempted to take a saw down and cut it myself, but with my luck I'd get arrested for something. Maybe I'll do it at night when no one is around. I've caught some big bass off that dock at night, maybe throw a small saw in with the gear one night.
