So Cal I.E.
Got to try the new EC sickles today - was using the BLN #6 tyed Chub & Belly spinner style. Fished inside area 42 - still looking for 3lb BG.
Hook up ratio went way up - can't say for sure if it was the hook or the size. Was very happy either way. The hook is comparable to the Matzuo and the QC is way better + made in America!
Pretty sure I will be switching over. Want to check longevity and if the hook tip rolls....
Stuck an 11" sow on the EC.

What in the heck do you feed them perch out there . Nice fish . You get better fish in a day than I'm likely to get if I fish for a month .

I'll have to give them a shot. I didn't know they were made here. Rather spend money on hooks from here than other places.

Glad to see you are staying on top of the big girls. Fluctuating or dropping water levels can make things tough.

Not an expert.............. Redear-bluegill cross hybrid? You identify the hybrids just by shape? Looks like they have a shorter ear too? Have gotten a few odd ball colored and shaped gills in my local reservoir lately and not sure where they fall between specie. Thinking they are a green sunfish-bluegill cross or pumpkin-bluegill cross, so totally different from yours.

Thanks for the EC Sickle report - keep us posted on further field tests. Looks like the biters weren't particular this day.

As for the monster jealousy inducing catches - pfft, same ol' same ol'.

Thnx guys
Russ - I'm not a biologist but there are traits that are very similar to the Redear. There is a faint marking on the ear flap, like the Redear marking - more prominent during spring time, and the splotchy skin coloration. When you fillet the fish you will find they have hard pin bones on the side. We have seen massive beds that held both REs and BGs spawning until mid summer. Have also caught northern strain BGs crossed with REs at Lake Havasu. The hybrids at Lake Perris are Coppernose & Redear.
Thnx Keith - now your mainland, you might have to cruise out to try the BG bite....
Yeah Big Ant - that 3lber is out there.
