Roger Black,,,sloedown passed yesterday after a lengthy illness..He hasnt been around here much in the last year or so,but at one time was involved in several swaps and posted regularly..

He was one of those, although I had never met personally, considered a very good friend. We spoke often on the phone over the years, and swapped materials and jigs many times, even a couple practical jokes too.

He and Ragged Edge were very close and were fishing buddies for a long time...Maybe he will have some more info for us...

RIP Rog,,,you will be missed.

Very sad news to here. Thoughts go out to all his family and friends. Oddly enough..... yesterday evening i was looking at his user profile and wondered why he had stopped posting.

I am Saddened by the News, I spoke with Roger earlier this year a couple times we BS'd , talked about his trains etc. I met Roger a couple of Years ago when i started tying Jigs, he pm'd me and extended a offer to swing by his place for some good old fashioned talking, and to watch him tye jigs, he gave me pointers etc. We tied some jigs together a few times, Fished at Navarro Mills etc. Roger, Buddy, you will be Missed, thanks for always taking time out for me!!!

Prayers up!!

RIP Roger!

I will tell you one thing that has really bothered me since yesterday is I called Rog 2 weeks ago, didnt get an answer, but he called back a few hours later,I wasnt able to answer at the time, he left some smart voice mail ; ) ,,,,, Sure been meaning to return the call since, but never made the time...

Its reminded me to do things when you think about it,or you might not have the chance to later...

It's always sad when someone close passes on.

I didn't know the guy, but my heart goes out for his friends and family.

Dang Hate to hear this! I didn't get to know him as well as some of you but I did have a little contact with him. He tied a mean jig and he liked his minnow heads!

Sometimes a fellow joins a fraternity like Jig Craft .and you think you are just a member going along doing your thing . I myself had noticed Roger was not posting . I hope that somehow Roger can take notice and know he was not just a member, but a brother from a different mother .
To Rogers family , May God comfort you and fill your heart with the many fond memories shared through his days on earth . Carry those joys before you like a shield and know even though he can not come to you . In the end you may travel to a time and place again sharing the union of spirits .

He was one of the few close friends I had. He was from deep Arkansas and I from SE Oklahoma grew up about the same way. He was 56 years old and I 61 when we first met. He was the type of person who had the patience, very meticulous, caring, cranky, bitchy and would go out of his way to try help anyone within his health issues. He taught NO NET NEEDED, CrappieHappy and myself the art of tying jigs. He kept to himself and posted on this site and TFF regularly as this was his source to the outside world. My son and Roger were very close and fished all the time together. He would help Roger load and unload the boat as Roger was unable. Just last Saturday he took 1/2 his BD cake over to Rogers house for all the family to share. We spent many many a day fishing, lying, bragging and trying to outfish the other. He never outfished me but he always caught the biggest for some reason. Just last week he called and chewed my hind end out for moving to New Mexico as he had nobody to fish with. He always reminded me of the move. He had a lot of respect for Radtexan and would always call him to talk about jig techniques and our latest fishing story. I'm sure he told Radtexan the story about us fishing when the tornado passed over. We looked at one another and kept on fishing. If the Lord was going to take us he would take us with what we liked to do best was his motto. I could go on and on but will stop here. He leaves behind a wife, son and daughter, inlaws and outlaws. Rest in peace my dear friend and one day we will fish together again on the other side.....

Of course I didn't know this gentleman as many of you did but it saddens me. It sure seems like Heaven received another great soul. My condolences and prayers go out to his family and friends. May knowing that he will always be here in memory and heart and knowing that one day be side by side with him again give them comfort.
