Going to visit my parents near Seattle this fall and I want to try my hand at jigging in saltwater. Going to tie up some big jigs for salmon and maybe rockfish if I get out to the coast. That means big heads with 2/0 - 3/0 plated hooks. No bronze. I'll probably be catching pinks, but there's always the chance of a nice coho so heavy wire is preferred. I'll be casting and retrieving and vertical jigging. Bullet heads, round heads and football heads (no brush guard) are all OK.

Can anyone hook me up with a dozen of each size? I'd prefer to trade, but will do PayPal if you want cash. Here's what I have for trade:

Powder paint:

Fl Pink
Silver
Gold
Dark blue
Gloss black
Gloss white
Safety orange
Safety red
Taupe

Fox:

White (arctic, tail and body fur)
Dark gray (body)
Black (body)
FL chartreuse, pink and orange (short zonkers, don't have as much of this)

Rabbit zonkers:

Cotton candy pink (rex, so shorter hairs than regular rabbit but no guard hairs)
White (ditto)
Dark brown (regular)
Black (whole uncut hide)

Shoot me a PM and let's make a deal.

Unfortunately, the salt water eats up uncoated hooks. They start to corrode really quickly, and with a tied jig where the materials take longer to dry and hold moisture next to the metal it's a real problem.

Thanks everyone. Think I'm good for now, but you can never have too many jigs. I'll post some pictures once I get the heads and get them tied.

Here is what they will be used for. Going to go out on Puget Sound with my frameless pontoon. The fish come into shallow water when they get ready to run up the rivers. Doesn't this look like a blast?

3/8 and 1/2 oz snootie jigs with a 3/0 black nickel Mustad hook, it is perfect for jigging and swimming.

EDIT: I forgot to say that these are heavy wire hooks.

Pinks are small compared to the other Pacific salmon, so most people use relatively light gear. Heck, I've seen people out there fishing for them with wimpy trout rods and kiddie poles.

You'd be surprised how far you can go over the rod's recommended lure rating without an issue, especially when you're in a boat and don't have to cast as far or worry about horsing the fish away from the bottom or obstructions. I have a MH Cabela's XML-Ti rated for up to 1/2 ounce lures, and I have absolutely no problems flinging 2 ounce bank sinkers a country mile when using it for channel catfish. Used it last year to cast 7/8th ounce Mepps spinners and managed to outdistance everyone else on the pier by at least 10 yards. The Nanofil line probably helped too.
