FM you should make a curing rack using "all thread" for the cross pieces to hang the jigs on. You would be able to cure all of those at once!

JSC - Trying out all the new paints I got from Columbia coatings

Eyecrosser - thanks I've used the trays for a long time

Ron - all 6 trays go in the oven at the same time, but I've looked at the threaded ones

CCJ - Once they come out of the oven they cool right in the trays and then I bag them up.

Here's some pics of the new colors. Need to check back with Columbia, this dormant paint calls for curing the base coat for 10 minutes then putting the clear coat on and finish curing it. I'm gonna check with them to see if a chrome or some other color will really pop the colors.

Blue (on the clear coat I mixed up a bunch of glitter in the clear coat)

Sparkle Red (this color was a PITA)

And I did up some yellow(ProTec) with a glitter coat

Are you using a fluid bed FM??? It seems you are getting a few nipples after cure and I have that happen from time to time when I do small numbers as I just dip in the jar but if I'm doing a good bit I use the fluid bed and never get them even when adding a glitter coat on top.

I'm with ya FM. I use a wire cooling rack to cure and cool. Can load up a couple hundred in a fairly small space as long as the heads don't touch. Learned that the hard way!

SJ - yeah I had a few, I misread how these colors really pop. When I first dipped I kinda thought I forgot it came our a real shiny silver color but when it went into the clear the color came out. This powder is a bit different than ProTec so I have to get used to it. Have to try the fluid bed with it.

I chipped a few when I was cleaning the eyes so I touched them up and I think that's where the nips came from but other Horseheads came out fine.

I would recommend getting a cheap toaster oven dedicated to curing heads. As fragile as life is no sense in taking the risk! Just my view on it.

Ron - have never had a problem with using the oven as long as I clean it right after. Takes me longer to clean it than it does to do the jigs!!!
