In a on going battle with General Electric...I bought this GE Refrigerator about 18months ago..my first GE Refrigerator lasted about 30 years...I was hoping for the same quality with this new one...I was WRONG !!!..

Well the drama with General Electric continues on !!!..Last Monday I wrote to the CEO of General Electric and told them what a terrible GE Refrigerator I had..and that I was not a happy GE Customer...and also wrote the CEO and told him, I was talked to like I was a old shoe..or a vagrant !!!...Well, just had a phone call from GE and they offered to replace my refrigerator at a discounted price..and I told them I would rather throw in the dump..!!..I talked to Bill Bauer ( Customer Relations At The GE Corporate Offices)..and told him he treated me like a pile of dog do-do..and I did not appreciate it...this time he was very meek and mild..told me they would send me a check for the repair work...I did not spare to many words with Bill Bauer..told him Jack Welch would not like the way I had been treated !!..I am just wondering if the CEO did not have a gun to his head..or much lower !!...I bet Bill Bauer never forgets me !!!...So much for GE Products..I will never buy another one !!!...

What is your major malfunction? I assume the frig died - what was the cause?

Good thing we got an extended warranty on our 5 yr. old LG range, contrary to Consumer Reports recommendations. Three separate repair incidents - two circuit boards and a burner. The first incident, the big hot burner clicked into max high heat and wouldn't turn off. Of course, we scampered out to the circuit breaker, but can you imagine a poor senior gal not knowing what to do?

Appliances are not made the way they used to be, that is for sure. Very frustrating. When they don't stand behind there products, well that is just the icing on the cake. :@[/align]

The reason is GE got the parts from overseas, yeah, I know but here is what I found out about cheap labor and cheap manufacturing. When companies move to china, or bangladesh or other places, it isn't about taxes, it is about labor pure and simple but normally you can still get a decent product but when they start using the material from these other places that is when you start getting junk. Because their are no labor standards the materials in those places don't get tested and often are not just inferior but really really inferior, when I worked for Alcoa they got an order for aluminum tube from GM so to make more on it they sent it to a plant in Brazil and guess what? I ended up having to work overtime to keep the GM plant making the new corvette at the time, from stopping production as the tube they got from Brazil couldn't manage to be bent without cracking and not just some tubes but all of them, 4200 tubes and every single one failed due to low material standards. People complain about the some of the insane rules we have when it comes to material manufacturing in this country but one thing is certain, steel, aluminum, concrete, plastic and so on is superior to every other place in the world except for Germany, and Japan and cinese steel is the absolute worst as well as their plastic along with everything else! Sorry about your fridge, I have GE products in my home and I'll go with something else after hearing your problem.

Yah, some of us are old enuf to remember when getting a new appliance or whatever was a joyful experience. Sometimes seems like mfgs are deliberately engineering to fail right after warranty expiration and even if still covered service is terrible.
