Went to the lake with my Dad today fishing for panfish. I end-up hooking into my first panfish with one of my jigs and it was a nice sized Redear :D I caught him a few feet off shore on a boulder drop off. I also caught a trout on a mealworm. My Dad caught one small bluegill and lost a few. O ya I used a tan belly spinner with copper colored body and copper head.

Heck yeah! Beautiful colors in that fish too. :icon14:

Fishing from shore for Redear over boulders - has to cause you to go through some jigs hanging up in those rocks.......... never fished for them myself but have read about how the RE's hold very tight to the bottom.

Hey Ron it was on one of your 1/32 minnow heads thanks for the speedy delivery.

AtticaFish - I ended up losing the jig on a branch just under the surface sticking out from a boulder. I will try to get it back when I float tube past there :) but in the mean time I will just tie another up :D

Doc Crappie- it feels good getting fish on something I made! especially since this is the first Redear I caught on one of my jigs. What a way to start! cant wait to get on the tube and get even more of these brutes.

Redear?!?!?!
That's a cracker!
And a good'n.

Great feeling ain't it?
I don't do it much, but I ain't found much better of a feeling than when it's all from your hard work and hands.
Awesome catch.

Hope you keep us updated when you get in that tube. And get your jig back. Was that the one you tied with the cricket in mind?

Always wanted to get/learn a tube, just worried about the gators here.

thx for sharing

Lost Pole- Yes it was cricket style but tied on the new 1/32's minnows I got recently.

Hawnjigs- This picture was taken two feet to the right of the first, the shore line opens up about 7 feet wide between the water and the tall trees/ bushes for about 40 feet. I caught the shellcracker just behind me in this photo.

Looks like the boulders go out a ways - nice habitat for predators and nasty for bouncing jigs. Why do you need arm/hand protection?

That's a nice redear,a real fatty. Are they spawning there yet ? I might have to tie a few of those crickets myself, hope to be there in a month or so. They have some monster redear and gills there and I want another shot at them. Is anyone fishing for and catching crappie ??

Jim I think they about to or are all ready are spawning, its just that the weathers been a little strange it would just start to heat up and then a rainstorm /cold weather would hit for twos days. Although I do see changes now, there are tons of small gills starting to hit the shallows and shad too. The Redear bite is definitely picking up. I don't really know anyone one that targets crappie, ive only caught one my entire time fishing there but man what they lack in numbers they make up in size! Although I do remember a member on a local fishing site that targeted crappie at perris, I think he had a certain brush pile he targeted.
