Hit the lake yesterday morning for some more longlining from the kayak. The water temp has dropped from 83 last week down to 78. The bite was slow but did find a few willing to bite.

Been asked about my kayak setup. Here are some pics, the trolling motor I custom built to fit the yak with the controls up front at my right hand. I used the adjustable foot braces on the kayak and ran cables from the foot braces to the trolling motor bracket I installed on the motor shaft to control the movement of the motor. These cables are run through copper tubing so they will move freely.
The wheels are built so they can be turned up while fishing and make so they clear the trolling motor while turned down, this way I don't have to remove the trolling motor. They attach with quick pins. I don't use the motor all the time and it can be removed in less than a minute.
I have the kayak set up for spider rigging (rack not shown) and longline trolling with jigs or cranks. Single rod fishing and fly fishing is also enjoyable from the kayak. One of the first things I changed was the seat, the 125.00 spent on the seat was worth every penny.:icon14:

Holy crap, you are armed to the teeth. You have some good old American ingenuity right there! Where is the coffee maker? :D No worry, looks like the cooler on the back could hold at least a 12/pack. Even steerable with your feet...... that would make one laid back ride.

Love the wheel and frame system.... did you bend all the frame yourself? Have tried to come up with something like that myself but your BLOWS AWAY any of my creations. Going to track down some supplies and see if i can't duplicate your general idea. Thank you very much for showing it off.

Russ, I couldn't fine tires lite enough so I finally ordered a kayak cart off of ebay and took it apart to use the main frame and wheels and bent some 1/2'' conduct for the top part . I used the rest of it for the front stand for it to rest on. I think I found the cart for $40.
I have another kayak setup for with the outriggers and rod holders. I keep it for when someone wants to tag along with me. I also have a SOT but just never got use to it, I like to have places I can lay stuff around me without having it fall off the boat and the set in boat has the space I wanted. Gave it to my oldest grandson but he still hasn't pick it up?

I actually have some wheels that came off an old golf bag cart. It has some hinged alum. frame also, will have to see if some of those parts might work... but i really like how easy the tube/frame and pins sounds. I have a couple places that require carrying in easily 1/2 a mile - and one has a BIG hill.

Those parts may get you going on a nice cart. The carts are a most if you plan to fish some of the back waters and ponds that have no roads going to them. I have used my wheels on every trip, even at the ramps. Makes it so easy to load and unload the yak. I also make two brackets I put in my truck bed, each one is made to fit the front of the kayaks. With these you just side the yak into them and it locks the front of the yak down so all you have to do is tie down the back of the yak and you're ready to go.
I have saved a lot on gas not using my big boat but using the yaks fishing close to home on waters I couldn't fish before.

You are so right! Rigging the yak was very enjoyable and then getting on the lake and everything working like you envisioned is priceless :icon14::icon14: I enjoy spending time in the shop tinkering with stuff, I'm not able to do it much anymore so I cherish every minute. :)

Thanks Jim.
