Starting to get the bug (tied jigs) anyhow, looking for suggestions on storage. I like having my tackle neatly organized, readily selectable and protected from tangling.

Usually, I use plano boxes and half dozen or so jigs in each compartment. Works well for plain jigs, there is some tangling but not hateful. However add some hair, feathers, fur, etc.. and there is a potential mega disaster awaiting. I have looked at some fly storage boxes and really have not found a good solution. I have some old non divided boxes that I have to sacrifice but and thinking about glueing some foam strips in one of them to provide a convenient storage box.

So what does everyone use to keep their jigs neat and orderly for a days week, season etc.. of fishing.

I have tied a few different boxes but went back to using the plano boxes. I have too many tied jigs to worry about how I store them. Never have any trouble removing the jig I want to use.

I hate it when the feathers or hair gets bent so I worked around it with a box from Wally World. I had a peice of 3/4 foam laying around and cut to fit, taped the edge to keep it snug and keep the foam from coming apart. Made small slits with a razor and stick em in.

My biggest trouble is when I mail them and trying to keep them in nice shape for their delivery.

I bought this at Hobby Lobby with their 40% off coupon so it cost me $21. It's a photo storage system but really works great for my hand tied jigs.

The large case holds 16 of the small boxes, each with a piece of 1/2" foam cut to fit & glued in.

I've since bought a smaller case that holds 6 of the small boxes. It's ideal for a fishing trip. I just figure a range of colors/sizes & olds the case. I figure if I can't catch a fish on a jig selection from 6 boxes, I just need to go home.

I've been struggling to find a nice toter that allows a visual recognition instead of a compartment in a tray style box. There are options here, but not exactly what I'm looking for. And no, I do not know what I'm looking for. Necessity is the mother of invention......so, ma, invent me something.

These seem to work good for me: http://www.cabelas.com/product/Cabe...&Ntt=fly+box&WTz_l=Header;Search-All+Products. Found these for $9.99, before they posted it online, so I bought all they had. Work pretty good, still have 3 empty ones I need to fill!!

Took Pepop's suggestion and went one step further. Used my labeling machine and labeled each box into classifications.

Like Reds wool jigs , my wool jigs , guinea fedder jigs , duck jigs and so on.etc. Instead of using foam I used a rubberish colored material with adhesive on one side. Cut the holders down to 4" X " and slapped into the individual container. Loaded the first box and give a pretty good shake. Everything held firm and untangled.

Having a lot of fun sorting things right now. Had to pay 32 something for mine ( no coupon ) but could not be happier.

THANKS A BUNCH PEPOP. My son is going to love this when he comes home for crappie fishing. He just loves raiding my jig supply.

Just came across saltwater rig wallets. They are rather inexpensive and work a treat, especially for medium to larger bucktails without sensitive hackles. The capacity is enormous. :icon14:

I cut fat drinking straws and cut them a little longer than the jig, slit the straw almost all the length and insert the the jighead into the slit end and run the jighead forward till it stops where the slit ends. The eye shank and hook point stick our of the straw but do not tangle badly with other straw encased jigs. As each jig is protected on its own, a loose jig in the box won't damage feathers, chenille, etc. To keep jigs from mixing a hook point can still be stuck in foam and jigs of a size or color can be placed together. I use small plastic ziplock type bags. Using clear or slightly foggy straws lets the colors of the jig show through.
