When the previous GWB administration left office, my Roth IRA at Vanguard had crashed 45% in value. So, in a very short time I had lost almost half of my retirement savings. Right now I'm relieved that the value has recovered to about 95% of pre-crash high. My wife's different type of IRA had crashed and is recovering at about the same rate. How is yours doing?

IRA...... ha! Waz-that? Retirement sounds like a pipe dream to me but am on the younger side of the majority here i think. All my xtra cash seems to disappear before i knew i had it. :dodgy: Keep trying to save it but something always comes up. If the farmer to the north of me tells me he is going to sell off lots, just might break down and cry. Can't afford another re-fi or equity after the land owner to the south sold his little 2 acre chunk. Don't think i can go in deeper just to hold off the fact of having neighbors.......... but, by damn i WILL try.

My father is retiring this month. I know that a few years ago he was talking about putting off his retire date as everything was starting to bottom out. He seems confident so must be back up same as yours. I do forsee some middle of the week trips on his boat coming soon.

Bet you a nickel you might get a few more responses if you leave out the 3 little letters 'GWB' from the post. On these discussion boards it always seems to help if you leave it as politically androgynous as you possibly can. Let the content of the message speak for it self. ;)

Yes, I realize some or many will be turned off by my gentle reminder where the crash started. They believe that the GWB admin is beyond reproach and our current problems are the fault of the current BO admin. So be it.

I like to think most of US on this forum are hard working or earned retirement backbone AMERICANS. We are content with income & assets honestly earned, and have limits on what we will stoop to for personal gain.

Having said that, I've just noticed that my improved IRA position might indicate an economic recovery of sorts? Would be interested in how others are doing in this regard, as personal experience might be more meaningful than the partisan propaganda in the media.

Stocks are a mix. Some up some down.

IRA's flatlining, but not behind anymore.

Need to hit the lottery so I can retire; problem is I need to buy a ticket first.
