Ok - I've followed all the tips - mix ratio's and I even did a test strip from the batch Attica sent me and on those it showed perfect glitter showed through great!!!!!!! but on the jigs and cured NOTHING!!!

Both mix's were 3 parts clear to 1 part color and pink, silver and blue diamond dust glitter. There was almost as much glitter as their was color!!!

This is what came out:
Fl Purple

Fl Blue

Any suggestions

More clear..... have to go about 6:1 mix if i try to put glitter right in the color. To get the candy looking colors (which show off the glitter the BEST) you almost have to double the clear up to 12:1 mix.

Still would rather do the color then mix up just the glitter in a seperate batch of clear and do that as a 2nd coat. Just have to make sure they are thin layers of each.

Are you dipping them in a jar or into fluid bed?

A lot more clear for sure. I fill a 1oz. jar about 2/3 full of clear, add my glitters then add a little color. Mix well then test with a jig. If it's too light add a little more. You are better off starting with a little color at a time, too much and it's harder to thin.

That's the thing that bugs me on these two colors - I used the strips Attica sent me and they came out GREAT!!! Showed all the glitter and they sparkled adn then on the jig heads didn't come out at all.

So right now at a 3 to 1 mix - you think I should add 3 more parts clear and bump up some more glitter??? then test with teh strips??

Doc I thought about doing just the clear with all the glitter but was trying to make it a 1 dip mix. I'm definately going to have to get more clear powder paint with mix ratio's like these though LOL. That purple is Janns Fl Purple.

I know powder paint has it's place as a convenient way to paint heads, but my best paint jobs have come with the liquid vinyl. Did buy some gold glitter once that was put out by CS and mixed it with liquid clear gloss vinyl, and would overcoat any color with it and it was great, but you did have to keep it stired up alot because it would settle fast.

Add the clear and it will let the glitter show through - what happens is the particles of the opaque powder end up sitting over-top the glitter and you do not see the glitter at all. Adding in the clear will let the lead show through more as well so it may darken the overall color depending how shiny your lead is. To let the glitter show the best, do it by itself AFTER the main color.

I do not use a fluid bed and tap on all my colors - that could make a big difference how the glitter gets spread out. Not positive but think RadT dips his glitter/colors mixes.

Those metal strips are thin aluminum and they heat up FAST. You might not be heating the strip the same as the larger solid jig head. You can also bend up that alum easily so that it is not a completly flat surface..... the colors look a little different on something flat.

Fatman, where it shows, that diamond dust glitter looks terrific! Would look outstanding in a top clear coat. Who makes it?

Hawn it's really nice stuff but trying to mix with color has been a PITA!!!!!! Alone it doesn't work very well and when I brush tapped over pearl it shows up perfectly!!!!!! Go figure - Even though I added a whole lot more clear it didn't help much whether I dipped or used the fluid bed and I bent one of the test strips Attica sent me and it came out great!!!! So I may go to the double dip method or I'm thinking with as heavy a powder as the Fl Purple is I may have used to much.

I do know I'm gonna get a whole bunch more clear as it goes QUICK!!!!!!!

The glitter I got came from JoAnne's Fabrics, its there brand. When I got it I asked the lady how it reacted with heat and another lady who works there uses it in her pottery and runs it through the kiln to dry so I've had no problem with it. I cure at 325 at 25 minutes.

Thats a good price, especially for the holographic silver. I'm looking more for the dust type that is in Sally Hansens diamond hard clear.

I got my Powder from Hunter!!!!!!LOL it was cheaper!!!!!!!! Been looking for that 6 pack of glitter you all use but couldn't find it, is it similar to the glitter they use when making t-shirts???

I found some clearance stuff at Wal-mart for .50 has 4 little flat plastic containers and that works pretty good, but I have less than 1/2 oz of clear left.
