Just returned from a visit to the Terceira - Azores - Portugal. Exhausted but it was well worth it. Unfortunately didn't get to fish (weather wasn't co-operating) - guess I'll have to go back....
What an awesome trip - will be posting some pics soon (took a bunch and tried out my Go-pro).
Have to rest up and start planning a return trip to Havasu.

you gotta be kidding? but seriously, the rockfishing there is fantastic. Wrasse, bream, mackerel, trevallies,....Would have loved to read about how you have done there. A lot of light rock fishing going on here in europe at the moment, and I keep wondering why everybody is looking at japanese plastics instead of old school jig crafting.

That's a long trip from California, glad it was a good one. Imagine the Jet Lag is kicking in about now. I like pictures too.

Thnx guys. Have determined I am better off takng pictures of BGs & REs. My pics are bad but fortunately had a lot of family on this trip that were taking better photos... Have to borrow some later.
Bucho - grew up spearfishing on the island. Had two friends that use to dive with me join the tour. We spent a lot of time reminiscing about our youth in the water. The boats that did go out came back with barracuda and grouper - fish we also speared were Maru (black sea bass) and Jack Crevelle. We use take languista (sp - clawless lobster), octopus, and conger & moray eels. The outer islands are good for huge marlin, tuna, and wahoo.
HJ - of course!! Was strange seeing huge dried out pieces of cod in the grocery store. Ate lots of bread, goat cheese, and alcatra.
Real but kicker Jim. 5 hour flight to Boston - airline sux - had to stay over. 5 hour flight to the Azores and we got stuck in Boston again coming back! SATA is one sorry airline!!!!
Another check on the bucket list LP.
Still working on the photos - need to resize....

Geez, is that a boat landing you're standing on? Looks like a few on our side of the Big Island in use before airline travel was an option. Before my time of course, but the landings are still there.

That looks like nice quiet place to retire. Those rocky wave surge white water pockets are perfect ambush predator habitat.

Wow, you speared morays? I've seen spears look like a pretzel after an encounter.

Yeah Hj - lots of the old fishing villages are still the same.

Thnx again guys. The locals are still fantastic people - they still invite strangers in to their homes to get out of the rain.....

Some more pics

Split Rock (actual name - I think is Isle of the Goats). Made my first ocean dive here

Surprising that there is still so much open space, since the Euros settled here at least 500 yrs. Your family are property owners?

Love the shoreline - rugged enuf to discourage most - I'd be boulder hopping & casting by my lonely.

Are the anglers fishing for sardinas or their predators?

The Azoreans are very progressive with eco tourism, now, Keith. A lot of the inland is designated wildlife refuges or parks.
Have some family friends that still own land. My roots are from SoCal - my father worked for the Air Force at Lajes Field.
Surprising property is not that expensive even with the heavy Euro influx. I think a lot of the influence is spread out to the other islands...

The guys on the rocks were using sabiki rigs - one was using a large cork rig. Didn't see any fish caught. Think you would be lost here Keith - miles of coastline and nobody fishing.
