Cold, COld, COLd, COLD, COLD! temps are in the forecast around my region for at least the next week.  Has me thinking about walking on water soon.  The most likely first available ice (shallow water upground reservoir) has a good population of crappie......... and the the average size has been increasing in the last few years.  8" to 9" is pretty consistent with a few hog 14" to 15" still mixed in from a good spawn year several years back.  Come on cold weather!!!!!

Mixed head weights (average 1/24 & 1/16)
All powder paint
Kip tail
mixed flash

The necks are just thread covered in nail polish that is a bit on the old side and pretty thick.

Those are some of the neatest kip tail ties that I've ever seen! But don't wish ice over quite yet , I've some "late fall" trout over here in PA to catch yet !!

Thanks jiggerjohn. I've had some practice with this style. Can't imagine how many i have tied over the years. This style of jig has become one of my most productive for panfish in general. Now that i look at them in the pictures it makes me think i added too much kip..... may have to thin them out a little if they don't 'breathe' in the water the way they should, but will let the fish tell me for sure.

My wife just told me this morning that she wants some bluegill because the last few fish meals have been walleye. ;)

Those look nice, Russ!

I still want to get some unpainted tungsten jigs and start teaching myself to paint those for ice fishing. Hopefully I'll actually get out on the ice this year.
