It's a nice looking vise - but been hearing alot of complaints from the fly boards talking about chipped tips and having to go through the ringer trying to get them replaced. Had read somewhere that they had been sold, anyone have more info on that???

The original owner's bought back the company first part of last year . The reason the jaws get chipped is they are not paying attention to the hook placement / improper placement and the hooks pop out and the jaws slam together chipping them .

That's the biggest excuse from the company as to why they didn't want to replace the jaws - now if the old owners come back with the right production it shouldn't happen. Most of the complaints were from guys with newer ones.

If you are just starting out, there are a couple of regal clones that are being sold on ebay for less than $40 including shipping. I picked up one, and it is significanly supperior to a AA type I was using before hand. It has held my walleye and bass size jigs very securly and the rotation has made tying much easier for this beginner. I am not suggesting it is anywhere near the quality of a regal. Just that you can get allot of similiar functionality, at a much lower entry price. ie a very good learning vise.

Wow they are a bit pricey, but they sure look good

For that much $$$, I should be able to lay the materials on the table and they should make themselves lol.

I also like this vise....nor vise Not as purdy, but would love to try it also.

Some of the fly guys love them but a vise that doesn't come with any base, or a table clamp set that's another $50 bucks, or you have to mount it to your tying desk and it's $295!!!

I still like my DK Kingfisher but I'm really looking at the DK Barracuda - but gonna have to save a lot of bucks if I decide on it. That kind of scratch buys alot of materials!!!!!!!!!

This is what I've Been working with for a few years. Havent bought a sock in a long time and just got some income tax money. I'd like to buy myself something, bf i give it away to the cc people, but would never spend that kind of money. I'll stick w/ what I have if there's not one that'll just hold a hook a bit better and allow me to get a good visual of the opposing side a bit easier for around a hundred.
The biggest hook ill ever tie on is a 2/0 more than likely. If anyone has suggestions, I'd appreciate it.

Thx,
Adam

You could check the fly board for sale sections - guys are always selling vise's. For what you want to spend Peak has a Non-rotary for around $95 or you could up to $150 your decision and get the Peak Rotary vise. Some of the guys here have it and really like it.

If you have a fly tying club in your area - go to one of their meetings and see if you can tie on a bunch of different vise's, or a local fly shop and do the same.

It may well be worth the scratch to get it but the seller really needs to put up way more than one picture!!! Looks can be deceiving!!! I sent an email through ebay asking for more pics of the stuff.
