I got to shovel a whole (long) winters worth of dog logs over the weekend. It was kinda crappy work i must admit. ;) Rest of the grass is still brown so will be awhile before the mowin' begins.

Once the yard is clean that first time however, then it is on to the garden and do look forward to that. My Grandma used to tell me that to grow the best peas, onions and carrots, they had to be planted by St. Patricks day here in Ohio............. that sure didn't happen this year! Got up in the 60's today and think it may have thawed up the deeper ground frost.

This is an off the 'yard work' topic but goes to show how late winter is sticking around this year. Check out this link... it maybe slow to load if running slow internet.

Lake Erie MODIS Imagery

That image was taken on Sunday when it was a bluebird sky most of the day. We had a band of snow come through on Saturday, which is the strip of white (snow cover) up the center, bottom of the image then continuing up the eastern shoreline of Erie. If you could get out on the lake with a boat, would be dodging a few icebergs. Over the weekend there were some reports of still 15"+ of ice in protected harbors of the western end. Latest into the year i have seen ice on Erie in my lifetime as well as even old timers who have fished for 50+ years.

My house dodged the snow. :icon14: I am straight south of the Sandusky Bay.... the Bay is the area of chocolate milk colored water just to the west of the farthest point south on Erie .......and we missed the heavier snow by only 15 miles or so.

I do work for my girlfriends mom also. There is a bunch of gravel that needs cleaned up from the snowplow.Luckily she has a riding mower since it's a pretty good size yard. It'll be awhile before I fire the mower up,the yard is like walking on a sponge.

Hey Attica - I lived in Temperance MI for five years - 2005 to 2010, your winter this year was a doozy. I saw ice on Erie but nothing close to that. Remember my post, "I Love Arkansas"? That was written after a a trip to Monroe and Jackson MI and then down into IN to Huntington. That was week of March 10th - we got 10" of partly cloudy and temps at -8 degrees. I love Arkansas but don't HATE Michigan...I just don't like it much. I do miss the morel mushrooms though.
