I GOTTA get more of this chenille!!

Tied this today with one of the samples I got from Skip.

Tied on a 1/12oz Minnow head with #4 Blood sickle, Candy Purple paint, 4mm Chartreuse 3D eye's, Copper #10 Crystal chenille and feather's I got from the Tool & Material's swap. I don't know what kind they are but they look good. 1 is Barred Yellow and 1 is Barred Wine. Then 4 strands of Silver "Icicles" (also from the T&M swap) for flash.

The feathers are saddle hackle from a hen. Only the roosters have the long saddle feathers with stiff barbs. On hens the saddle feathers are short, broad and curved.

You can straighten them out a bit by pulling the feather through your thumb and index finger while digging your thumbnail into the convex side. I've never used them as tails, but if you strip off one side they make awesome collars on jigs and wet flies. I've also seen people use them as claws on crawdad imitations. Just snip a V out of the end and tie them so they point away from the hook shank.
