Been at work and away from the vice for a while and have a while to go. Kinda starting to have some withdrawles I think. Just wondering how often some of you guys tie. Normally when I'm home I'm on the vice every night even if its just to dink around and tie one.

I'm making baits every night after the reg day at work. As to tying, I have to average a min of 100 a day to stay ahead of the game. Some weekend are longer than others, or if I take a day and go fishing I play catch up through the evenings.

I tie almost daily, sometimes my time is casting and painting. Season starts soon so 100 doz each month during the summer is average. Made my first shop circuit of the season this morning here in central NY and sold 86 dozen from my inventory - and so it begins....

Haven't tied since Jun 2013 but I keep buying stuff and prepping materials so I'm definately ready when I do. I have lots of jigs and flies tied, and even after giving a bunch to the Vermont Outdoors program still have a lot left.

It's a hobby for me, so only tie when some charity asks me for a donation, jig swaps, or when I need jigs to fish.

Most of the "money" baits I sell are bass jig, spinners and buzz.  I tie a ton of the 1/48, 1/32/ 1/16 oz crappie jigs.  Mostly I sell on ebay and fb.  I'll start tying float n fly jigs in early Sept.
By far my best selling jig

My best selling swim bait

Crappie jigs basically anything that strikes me and I'll sell them in singles on ebay and by the doz on fb.
first pic is a high end jig the second is a lesser expensive jig.

Fatman I can't believe you've been that long without tying! But I understand what you mean about having a lot of inventory. There have definitely been times when I had to tie something off the wall because I couldn't justify making any Kore of the baits I actually use
Q those are some good looking baits. Never seem a pb and j swim jig. Neat stuff. If you don't mind my asking what's the recipe for that high end crappie jig
Didn't realize there were so many commercial tiers on here. Can't imagine tying in that kind of volume. I tied striper Bucktails for a shop I used to work at,though nowhere near that quantity at once. Just having to whip up 4or 5 dozen a night was plenty monotonous for me. Now I tie for myself and a couple other charter boat buddies. I give the culls and off the wall stuff to kids around the neighborhood or tackle shop

           Mini Copper Blaze
1/8 round #1 hook
Copperhead
4mm Gold Silver
orange
Orange Marabou
blue silver midge 8 strands
orange deer tail
2 cream feather 1 each side
2 natural bared feathers
blue silver midge 8 strands
white antelope

I mash the sides in on my ball jigs before painting the eyes glue on better.  I also tie this in a Bass jig 1/4 and 3/8 oz It's a great small mouth jig, but there is a lot to it.

Out here...
Been a couple of weeks for me.... Its time to put um to work. I wont run out anytime soon, but when I run low I have plenty of heads painted ready to spin up... It isn't a business for me, it is the absolute best way to fish... IMO

Been too busy wrenching and welding to tie in the last month but I am always thinking about new stuff to try when I sit down next. I haven't had a day off, of daylight to dark in a month(except the one Sunday I went fishing). I think I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and getting caught up.....wait what? Awww shucks it's just the train.

LoL

Guess I fall into that category too. But if someone's usually begging hard enough, free beer's involved

I tie almost everyday. Always trying something new. I had surgeries for torn rotator cuffs in both shoulders and was tying less than a week after both surgeries that were six months apart. It hurt but I found a way.

I love to tie.  In fact, I'm sure that it's been something that was instilled in me by my father during my formative years.  He was truly a good parent who knew what he was doing in order to make me become a better person later in life.  Least, as far as he could have seen of it. :)

I tie less nowadays as I become interested in other endeavors, like possibly rod winding.

One never knows exactly what the future brings.

As I'm just sort of starting out probably not as often as I should or want. I really need a more dedicated area because having to haul everything out and put it all back cuts into tying time and enjoyment. Getting real busy now and will have less time but for me it's a productive relaxing hobby like reloading. Helps keep your mind sharp and your hands busy. Not allot of exercise for the lower/mid body but neither is tractor driving. That's what hunting and fishing is for! :)
