Some time back there was a survey about best size head for crappie hands down the size was 1/16. Anyhow, my next question is what is best size hook for crappie jigs with 1/16o head.

It also depends on what you're fishing for. I'll fish for Crappie, and a size-appropriate gold hook will work. But, if I'm fishing for Stripers, in the current, I need a stronger hook. Lord help me if a big old Flathead grabs that jig (I've seen it happen).

I caught a 30+ pound shovel head on a 1/16oz RR UL 5-1/2' rod. 4# test probably 45 minutes but thank god for a net and a friend on standby.

I've caught dozens of 10 lb+ and smaller channels cats and bues cats on a 1/32 oz jig with sickle hooks, never had one straighten out. Set the drag properly and enjoy the fight.

Right now my river is surging with 40,000 cfs of dirty red-brown water. Current speed, depending on location, is anywhere between 5 and 10 mph. If I hang into a 30 lbs fish in this current, I better be using one of my dedicated catfish rods. I'm not even sure if I could handle that big a fish with my surf rod (longer rod, bigger lever with advantage to the fish).
