Out of control! We're helping out our daughters family in Greeley CO, and in 3 successive years Allstate has gone from $721 to over $1,000 and this year its $1,349.72. When it jumped $300 last year I tried calling State Farm who previously insured the house and 1 or 2 others but quit when the quotes came in higher than Allstate. Its a modest property worth around $150,000 and we have been claim free for the duration of our ownership.

Anyone else want to rant?

Well, JM, at least you made me feel better knowing I'm not the only one getting hit. I could handle 5% or so a year, but a 30+% slam? 2 years in a row?

At least you've got trophy fishin' to ease the pain.

WHO DO YOU THINK IS PAYING FOR SUPERSTORM SANDY. you and me!!!!!!!!!!! That is how insurance works. Insurance companies never loss money. Even Warren Buffet has said that Insurance is the last of his assets he would get rid of. What does that tell you. What was the first company he bought for Berkshire Hathaway. Geico insurance company.

For any of you who are ex-military (you do not have to be retired military), or are active duty, take a look at USAA.

We have switched our car insurance to them (saved $450 on our 6 mo. premium), and are in the process of switching our homeowners - as it will drop from $1700+ to a tad over $1000 (w/ higher converage amounts).

What's even better, is that my daughter was able to join w/ USAA due to my prior service, and was able to save a chunk on her car insurance as well. Her car insurance premiums were going up $150 on a 15 y/o car w/ 170,000 miles. By switching to USAA, her premium dropped below $300.

Our soon to be former insurer is the good hands people (A*****te).

Now - full disclosure - w/ USAA - you do everything to your policy's via the web or a 800 # - they have no "brick and mortar" agents. They do have appraisers under contract, should you have a claim, and if wide spread damage occurs - ie a tornado, they will bring staff in to an area.

Unc - My wife just asked me about USAA last night - she's calling today to see how much less we can spend between car/home/motorcycle. Less than a month ago my daughter called asking if I had switched cause her car insurance had gone up.

Hopefully it's a lot less!!!!!!!!!!! We'll see
