Anyone of you ever use it? I saw some pics of jigs done with the glitter colors and it looks great but I never tried it. I can tell you that the reason is the glitter in it looks to be super fine were as the protec is pretty heavy compared to a lot of other fine glitters.

Honestly, never heard of them till just now..... i looked them up. Prices are about middle of the road. By the names of some of the colors - makes me think it is a CSI/ProTec paint that has been repackaged?

Where did you see the pics?

SJ - never used it but it's seems like any other powder paint. The one site I went to 1oz was $3.19, lots of places you'd pay $2.75 for an oz. As you've seen I mix my own glitters in clear powder paint, and with this you can use what ever glitter you want.

I bought a couple of colors a few years ago and it's very similar to the Pro-Tec. Their chrome is shinier than Pro-Tec. Copper is pretty cool, too. I prefer to mix my own glitters like AF. I go through more clear than anything else mixing my glitters.

I thought the same thing also and it is close but the glitter they use is really fine, much finer than protec. I have to look for the pics I saw but it was much better than protec.

SJ - don't listen RUN!!!!!!
smiley-laughing025.gif
you will be so addicted you won't know where to turn!!

I listened and i've got powders, jars, fluid beds, brush's and more glitter than I'll probably ever use but I keep buying more. Sometimes I think it's worse than buying materials.

Ok, so where do you guys get your glitter and how fine can you get it? I want to make a black pearl with metal flake dust in it so it looks black but when sunlight hits it the black comes alive and glistens but all I can find is big glittler.

SJ - I get mine at Michaels, AC Moore - they have a bunch of stores don't know which is closest to you, JoAnne's fabrics, Hobby Lobby when I get to Rutland VT. Walmart has a kit of about 12-15 jars of glitter but you have to check the size.

I try to get the fine/extra fine, but if you're going to be doing larger heads you might want some bigger. Just remember when you use it - lower temp longer cure time and if you go this route like Jim said buy ALOT of clear!!!!!!!!

Black Pearl...... you ever see the standard Pro-Tec color called Smoke? Click the link below and go to color #63. It is a black color with a silver metallic finish - sorta. If i was to guess, they take plain black and mix it with mica powder or something very similar. It may be what you are looking for and you could always add a tap of silver holo glitter over top if you want a little more sparkle. Then a tap of black flake to really give a good BLACK contrast...... ok, i went too far didn't i? :D I do have heads painted that exact way though.

http://www.csipaint.com/products/powder-coatings/pro-tec-powder-paint.php

The mica powder is about as finely ground of a 'glittery' material i have seen. It thoroughly mixes with the powder color and changes the appearance of the color. I have a bunch of colors of straight glitter from Junk-Mart and they work good, i have the smaller of the 2 sizes they have on the shelf - kids craft isle. The glitter that is mixed in with the Pro-Tec brand is maybe just a hair smaller than the craft stuff i have. They all work!

I started out cutting back the cure temp and increasing the time (as recommended by the company) but now i just cure all my glittery heads the same as non-glitter - as recommended by Radtex here on the forum. ;) Never had a problem with the glitter melting or anything else............. yet.

My all time favorite black powder is black stardust from powder by the pound. It's a flip flop so it's high price. Has the finest holo glitter I've seen! Being automotive paint it is high heat tolerant. Ive tried to buy just the glitter but they buy the paint premixed and didn't know what glitter it was. I hit a dead end on that one. I know it's finer than .008.

Thanks AtticaFish, I have the smoke and got it for just the reason you said and it pissed me off something fierce but I calmed down and found a use for it. The reason I was mad is the color isn't smoke or anything close, it is mate black, pure black with no gloss, I even tried it over pearl and white but nope, just plain black but I did find it works good on jigs that I don't want to gloss black. Ron Don, thank you very much!!! That is exacly what I'm looking for!! I checked for 3 solid hours, there is no glitter available as fine as I would like it so I'm going to get some of that black stardust and try it out, thanks all for the information. And BTW, I'm still going to get some clear and fine glitter and see what I can mix up now that I see how all of you are doing it!!

SJ - make sure you have plenty of jars!!!!!!!! if you start mixing and make sure to write EVERYTHING DOWN!! I've got one color I really like and so do others but I can't remember how I did it, and the cap on it is marked "screwed up". ULine company has pretty good prices on clear jars - I get the 2 oz. with lids.

Ron - I think I found your smaller size glitter!! If fine is .008 then this stuff which is called ULTRA FINE has got to be smaller

Ronny is correct on the stardust,,,its one of the coolest black's Ive seen...Can get pretty close at home with the hobby lobby glitters..It doesnt list an exact size, but it is ultra fine...

They carry,pastels,metallic's,holo's,primary colors,neon's etc....... http://shop.hobbylobby.com/products/pastel-holographic-glitter-pack-184663/

I havent tried it on jigs smaller than 1/32 oz but from there on up its a great size..If you have a HL closer by,watch the stores, couple times a year they will have a 1/2 price sale on glitters...I stocked up 2 years ago and havent even made a dent in my stash yet...And like Russ said, cure as normal..no melting issues.

Ultra fine is .008. I want smaller than that. Not sure y no one carries it. Problem with getting from the manufacture is a 10 lb minimum. Can you imagine how much glitter that would be in that small of a glitter!

Is that really small size better in your plastics??? The fine I found lists size as .008 that's why I thought the ultra would be even smaller.

Ultra is generally considered the smallest and its .008. I looked at the site you listed and ultra was .008 and extra fine was .015. Im wanting this for paint not plastic.
