Very glad to have found this site! I'm 20 years old and a multi-species jig addict who frequents the barge canal, delta lake, oneida lake and more for whatever I can hook up with any particular day. I have tied basic crappie jigs in the past but now want to tie on lead free jigs for Pike and Walleye. Any advice on where I could purchase the appropriate[/quote] jigs and materials?

Welcome from NW Ohio!

Ditto what LedHed said...... Hawnjigs is a member here that runs leadfreejigheads.com and he does produce excellent jig blanks with about any head/hook configuration you may want. I use Jann's Netcraft for the majority of my tying materials, but do not overlook your local sources. Craft stores have a ton of stuff that can be used on jigs from thread to even some animal hide/fur like coon tails or rabbit skins. Careful with 'craft store' feathers tho, many are not dyed the best and will bleed out in the water. Natural colors usually work good though. Also, make friends with any hunters you may know and offer trades....... finished tied jigs for tails from deer, coyote, raccoon, squirrel. Duck hunters are good friends to have also. I have been know to chop tails off road kill, just make sure you clean and salt the tail good. ;)

Welcome aboard. We stomp in many of the same waters. Walleye in Oneida Lake tell stories of how irresistible my jigs are...

Welcome from Kansas. You're from my old stomping grounds. Grew up fishing Oneida Lake, Finger lakes, St. Lawrence River and Lake Ontario/Salmon River area. I remember black, black/yellow, and purple w/flash used to be the ticket for Walleye jigging in Oneida. Tipped with minnow in the spring/ crawler or leech as the water warms.
