Have any of you used this? The reason I ask is I got it thinking it was like the acrilyic hair you find in hobby shops and craft stores but it isn't. I will say though it was a happy accident becuse it is easy to tie, getting material is a little work but well worth the effort. It comes in a 5"X5" patch and the length of the hair it 2.5" -3" and I've made jigs using only this as well as in combination with buck tail but I'm trying to use it by itself as it is really nice in the water, it look like it breaths standing still. I thought I'd tell you all about it if you're looking for a good craft hair, like I said, I wasn't really impressed at first, there is a lot of "under fur" that you need to clean out when you cut a patch of it but it the water it looks so natural, it feels finer that what is used on the punisher jigs. I just thought I'd let you know about it.

I've talked to the owner at the fly shop and he's liking it except for the "under fur" but truthfully you get that with the Punisher Stuff too. I go with whatever the best deal is at the time.

I don't use it much because of the under-hair but I guess if you tied a lot with it you would learn how to deal with the under-hair.

I found the easiest way to deal with the "under fur" is simply cut it off. I open a new pack and take about 5 minutes and just pull the fibers up and a lot of the loose fibers come right up and then all you deal with is the stuff on the bottom but I just hold it next to the jig to see how much I need to cut off and then cut it, all of the loose stuff is on the bottom so one cut and it is all gone. It is a pain but it does look great in the water.

Have never used the Punisher fur to compare but do have some of the Hareline CF and will say it is very nice. The under fur can be a pain... i pull it out with each bunch of fur i cut off - just grab the tips of the fur firmly with finger and thumb of one hand and pull out the underfur with the other hand (from the cut end) so you are only keeping the longer fibers and use the longer fibers to tie with.

Craftfur is excellent for the action! Very smooth and fluid movement. :icon14:

Can get craft fur that has long fibers (think it is called long pile) at just regular craft shops. Mine is either from a local craft shop or Hareline's fur.

These are from the swap going on right now. Used black Baitfish Emulator in the center - the orange fur is Darice brand from the local craft shop and the chartreuse is Hareline select fur from Jann's:

Some others i found in my pics:

The Punisher stuff I had came out of a material swap box and used it on some jigs I sent my brother. Tried the craft store stuff and don't like it, it bleeds too much.

Punisher on their site sells a max pack with every color they have for about $48. In the selection box it's the last one

The jigs they show will also give you some ideas for ties.

Thanks . Nice looking jigs . Guess I need to get some and tie up some jigs

I looked at some in a local craft shop and I didn't like the way it felt and I didn't try the punisher brand but the Hareline extra select craft hair is great once you get used to using it, the material gathering is the problem, it ties in easy. After seeing my jigs in the water with the Hareline stuff I'll be using it a lot more in place of bucktail on some jigs , the movement of it in water is absolutly fluid. The 2nd pic that AtticaFish put up, the brown/orange jig looks like the Hairline stuff, it comes in a patch that is a 5" X 5" square and it has a good amount of material for the price, I get a lot of bass jigs out of a patch and those jigs are made with 2/0 and 3/0 hooks. Try it, you'll like it.
