Ever since I read this article on GFF, I was trying to get my hands on a portion of seal fur. Its been almost ten years now... Came across a comercial tyer recently who uses it, looked it up on ebay again and Bam! got a whole hide for 80€
Was a bit disapointed about the short hair at first but after a few tyes I checked with the lamp and what do you know, similar to polar bear, it seems to be one of the very few natural materials that features fluorescens:
The hair is really short, but the skin is easy to work with, limb but sturdy enough to be penetrated without tearing even in narrow strips. I´d use it for smaller patterns, the size 6 mustad in the picture is about the limit.
Edit: just read there´s a general retail ban on seal products of any kind in the EC. They won´t let me sell a single jig. Damn!
