Ever since I read this article on GFF, I was trying to get my hands on a portion of seal fur. Its been almost ten years now... Came across a comercial tyer recently who uses it, looked it up on ebay again and Bam! got a whole hide for 80€
Was a bit disapointed about the short hair at first but after a few tyes I checked with the lamp and what do you know, similar to polar bear, it seems to be one of the very few natural materials that features fluorescens:

The hair is really short, but the skin is easy to work with, limb but sturdy enough to be penetrated without tearing even in narrow strips. I´d use it for smaller patterns, the size 6 mustad in the picture is about the limit.

Edit: just read there´s a general retail ban on seal products of any kind in the EC. They won´t let me sell a single jig. Damn!

Those look really nice.

That's tough re the sales ban. However I wonder if it would be possible for you to give them away with an order as an added incentive to attract orders made with legitimate materials. Just a thought.

That is a great looking pattern and amazing how much light pops out under the black light!

@ hawnjigs:
I noticed he started selling them just a few weeks ago. He knows either more than me - or less. Probably the latter. He´s an ok guy who I´ve already done business with so I wrote him a friendly advice yesterday. Maybe I´m wrong and there is an exception. How are things being handled in the U.S., heard there´s a similar ban, is it cathegorical?

The guy on ebay was a private seller who probably didn`t even know what he was doing.

Have no idea what critter furs are banned, since easily available rabbit, mink, & skrat work fine. The chance of someone recognizing your ties as seal seem miniscule to me. Oh wait, you just posted on the forum...

Frankly, I was already thinking of "polar mink" or something, temple-fox wise, you know.... But lets first see how they produce.
