I've never really tied any jigs with hackle tails. Usually just marabou, buck or squirrel. Tried to look at some pics and read a bit. More concerned as to which way they should lay. I know how the Vs are cut just not sure how they're used. Seems to me, appearance wise anyways, that they look better using the natural tips. But I guess you try to utilize as much material as possible.
Why not saddles instead of neck?
Anywho. Any tips suggestions videos etc would be appreciated very much.

Here's one I tried with question marks on my face.

I think they look great LP..I too like the looks of using tips, rather than cutting the V we hear about.80 % of my jigs are hackle..

Only suggestion I might have is the tails may be just a touch too long.

I do prefer neck hackle to Saddle. The Saddle in a little too thin for me.

What Rad said..tail length about the length of the body and head combined. Other than that it looks great!

Looks perfect to me! I make my tails about that exact length. If you have not already dip it in water and look at the tail wet.Hackle is very thin compared to hair or maribou when wet.

Hey Adam. I think all my first jigs had too long a tail. They still worked on the Pearl. I had to shorten them a lot up here. Get that boy to tyeing!!!!!!! Haven't seen any pics lately?????????????

What's up Adam? I usually tie two of the "Vs" just behind the head then tie one tip around 1 1/8 in long over the Vs. One little tip, after you whip finish your jig, you can grab the chenille and twist it to get your tail perfectly straight, then add your drop of glue. Like everybody else said, saddle is too thin for tails on crappie jigs. I sometimes buy "saltwater neck hackle" from Bob Marriott's. It's just a larger neck hackle with wider feathers.

Thanks a lot guys. I appreciate all the help immensely.
Grabbed the paddle boat yesterday after work and hit a slough. It'll definitely fish.
