Nice size, not too big, not too small, maybe a 2 year old. She did look bigger from the tree I was standing in. Thumped her around 6:30 pm, went hunting for her and couldn't find her, it got dark on us fast. Had to leave my doe until this morning and found her in a biar patch half way down the hill. She fell and rolled against a log, her white belly turned in towards the log. Dragged her out this morning. Thank god!

Nice Deer will be tender. You should have sent the dogs out they would have found it right away. Eat the liver and heart right away. You can hang the rest and age a little if it is cold enough. If you got to much there are several of us that will help you eat what you can't.

Yum! Where did you hit her? - can't tell from pics. How you like to eat deer?

That's a nice natural brown color fur - I'm beginning to suspect color dying is just eye candy.

My hand was covering the entry hole on her side. Some people just don't like to see the holes, so I did them a favor :) I had her hams left whole and deboned, made homemade breakfast sausage out of her rib cage meat, hambuger out of shoulders, tenderlion sliced into steaks, and the neck roast was left whole ( gave that to my grandparents)
Had us some homemade deer chili lastnight for supper........it was soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo gooooooooooooooooooooooooood!
Did keep the tail, wish I could have kept the hide. I don't have anywhere to keep it for it to cure out with out the dogs trying to eat it. The next deer, I will make a place and cure it the old fashion way, my granddad taught me how long ago....well my long ago. Can't wait!

Hawn that was going to be my question. She must mix in some pork or beef fat. I like the hamburger with a lot of fat content in it for my meat loaf. 80/20 is the leanest that I use for that.

Way to go Heather! I usually have mine processed by a guy who makes great smoked sausage and smoked snack sticks. He adds beef fat to the hamburger and pork fat to the sausage. I'm waiting on Nov. 5th, primitive weapons season, where I can blast one with my .45-70.

Beautiful pics!
My fav meal is chicken fried steak made from deer, next to crawfish.
Have to beat the '*^<~>¥? Out of the meat, but it's worth it.
Congrats Heather!
