My son Robert, surprised me this past week and bought me a brand new computer...it is faster than a speeding bullet..able to leap tall buildings in a single bounce...and it is the state of the art..and will be obsolete by next week !!!...
The trouble is...sometimes, I wish I had my old clunker back...it was only about six years old ...slower than molasses in winter...but I was comfortable with it..!!....But my kids keep telling me I am still living in the DARK AGES !!..Because I do not have the State Of The Art Electronics....but I keep telling them...everything I own is PAID FOR !!!...:D
So ..I will keep plugging along with my new computer...and maybe one of these days I will have it conquered..but by that time..I will probably need a new computer and have to start all over again !!..:D

Congrats on the new system ML. If it is Win8 (which i assume it would be) i feel your pain. Consider myself fairly computer literate and Win8 has thrown me for a loop. They changed some major things from even Win7. Many of my software programs (including my web design software) are not compatible with the new laptop i got around Christmas.

LedHed...... have you even upgraded from dial up yet???

I have win 7 and was going to upgrade to win8 but was told by many I would be much better off going with google chrome? Anyone know anything about it? Pros? cons? I don't know much about computers.

Yeah Win8 seems too much like they're telling you how it should be set up. I've watched some stuff from the Windows site and 8 looks like they have it set up like a touch pad!!!

I use google chrome and it was a castor oil capsule to learn. Now it is the only thing I use. Its like using a smart phone or a kindle fire. It's faster and better than IE. My wife uses IE and she complains that the computer is slow. Same computer with chrome is lighting fast. I love it!!!

That is exactly what I was told about google chrome, major fast!! The other thing I was told...which makes sense to me anyway, is that the threat of getting viruses is reduced substantially. Reason is that most viruses are aimed toward internet explorer, due to the fact that's the most common browser. I am nervous to switch to google chrome only because I am not computer savy and don't want to screw my computer up, or do something I can't fix....guess I just need to educate myself on it a bit more to gain the confidence.

I have a brand new computer sitting in my house that I built. My old one with XP is just too comfortable to be on. Wife keeps wanting to know why I spent the money to build new one.
I mumble something about " backup " and keep surfin.

On my 3rd hard drive, my trusty XP finally gave up. Year old "backup" WIN7 machine is now up & running. Firefox came installed and that browser appears to be much more user friendly than quirky IE9. Formerly preferred Chrome to IE8, tho the Google browser interface takes a bit of patient practice to become comfortable.

Downside to upgrade is HP printer that worked fine on XP won't enable on WIN7 even with the disc.
