I've been working on some bass jigs using super glue to glue in weed guards and I'm not totally satisfied with the results. Any suggestions? What do you use? Here's a couple 1/4 oz poison tails I've been working with. Won't let me download pictures. Been like this for weeks now. Every time I try to post thread with pictures it says web page has expired.View attachment 6View attachment 7

Jim

This is the glue I use when putting eyes on my jigs for extra protection and haven't lost any yet.

I also use it on jigs where I drill a small hole and put a piece of leader wire in

Hope this helps

ACE and Aubuchons usually carry it, and sometimes you can find it at WalMart. It's actually a Devcon product. Last time I found it in town I bought 3 bottles and 2 tubes of it.

When glueing the eyes and leader material it doesn't take much so it goes a long way. Only reason I ran out of the first bottle I used it to fix my wife's dresser drawer.

Those are excellent jigs. Black'n'blue is hot right now. White is a favorite of mine to use early in the spring and late in the fall.

.....don't have much info about glue and the guards. Only ever glued in a handful and made a mess out of a few of them.

Not sure why your page is expiring before you are done posting. Checked the control panel options and do not see anything that could bump you off and log you out after a certain time of non-activity. Not heard of this issue with others either.... possibly an issue with your connection or server bumping your connection offline?

For my type of fishing weed guards usually get in the way but have a customer that wants them. Of course I don't mind losing a few. Been really impressed with the football swing jig. I didn't lose one the last three trips even in the rocks.

I agree with Fatman on using the Devcon 2 ton epoxy. Been using it for many years for weed guards. It is also used by custom rod builders like myself to attach handles and cork rings to rod blanks. 30 minute open time and 8 hour full cure. I turn a empty soda can bottom up and put 1" to 1 1/2' beads and mix with craft stick for 2 minutes. On weed guards I place a small drop of epoxy into weed guard hole with a toothpick and insert guard. Also available from rod building supply folks. They sometimes list it as Flexcoat Rodbuilers Adhesive.

I use Loctite Gel Super Glue to glue in weed guards. It's much easier to control, especially with the Loctite bottle. I tried regular thin super glue, but wasn't entirely pleased with the results. Too fiddly trying to get one drop in the right place and it tends to wick up the fiber weed guards, making them very stiff.

I noticed that myself Holmes. I put the guard in place, set the jig upright and put one drop of super glue at the base of the guard. Sometimes it would flow down into the hole but other times I saw it run up the guard.

I put a drop of glue in the hole and then put the weed guard in. The thin glue still wicks up the fibers. Never had that issue with the gel.

30 minute epoxy from Hobby Town USA. I always take the 2 bottles and turn them upside down side by side on a plastic lid from a dog food container squeeze equal parts onto the lid mix well and take the end of the weedguard and dip the fused tip into the epoxy, stick it into the head and lightly wiggle back and forth to get any air out. Set them aside and wait till fully cured. Lid can be used again and again.......just flex the lid and cured epoxy will pop up and you can take a knife blade and rake the cured epoxy in the trash.......save your $$ and don't buy mix'n cups. Also the epoxy is great for glue'n eyes to the jig heads......I take a little craft paint brush that kids use to make messes with and I use the plastic stick (opposite from bristle) and dip it into the epoxy, then trace around the outside edge of the eyes and over the eye a little.......no need to keep buy'n paint brushes for epoxy work, when epoxy cures on the tip all you do is run a blade down the tip as if you were whittle'n on a stick. Epoxy comes off in trash can and your ready for next batch of jigs.
