Thanks to AllenOK for suggesting this fly. This was my first try, so don't beat me up to bad. I need a tad longer hook. This is a 1x size 10 dry fly hook. Really enjoyed doing something different.

Not bad. Now, once you start seeing grasshoppers around your favorite fishing holes, go fish it!

Yellow is a good color. I tie all my Gurgle-Pops with yellow foam. I try to stay with natural colors for the hoppers around here. I start with green foam and green legs early in the season. Then I go to green foam with green/gold legs. After that, I will go to yellow with the green/gold legs. I also have some light brown foam with firetiger legs for late Summer / early Fall, as many of our local hoppers have orange barred legs at that time. I need to tie up some hoppers in yellow foam with firetiger legs.

Another nice thing about the GFA Hopper pattern: In the larger sizes, they are VERY bouyant. I will use them as the lead fly in a tandem rig, hanging a nymph of some kind on a dropper tied to the bend of the hopper's hook.

I like it! I have yet to try that pattern but will just as soon as my foam gets here. All I have foam wise right now is bodies.

Would bucktail work? Don't have any clumps of deer hair......

Nice job!

Yeah, I just cut my own rectangle to match the hook gap and put a blunt triangle on the back. Look up GFA foam hopper on you tube. There are about 3 videoes that I watched.

I use bucktail for my GFA hoppers. I will use both the dyed, and the darker hair that's been dyed as well. I do this in conjunction with changing the color of the legs. I find this helps to match the natural bugs in my area.

Another tip I do:

I buy my foam in 12 x 18" sheets. I'll cut a 12" strip, 1/4" wide. I cut one end of the strip into the blunted shape used for the tail. I'll start tying the pattern, with the long end of the strip going off to my right. Once I fold the strip over and tie it down, I'll cut the excess. Repeat until either the quota for hoppers of that color is done, or I need another strip.

I can crank these out about one every 5 minutes once I hit my stride.
