For those that have not used them, especially in open water. When fish start staying deep, they can be very productive. Not a bait for bank fishing though. They are for vertical jigging either through the ice or from a boat. Their side to side erratic action is outstanding.
If you haven't mastered using a lure retriever, you will loose a lot of them. Even with a lure retriever, you are gonna loose some. By my recollection this season, our saves are around 90 from 6 days of hard fishing using jigging raps almost exclusively. My Buddy and I have limited every time and have been lucky enough to cull on 4 of our 6 trips. To date, this season I have only lost 3, my buddy 2 but he is more patient with the lure retriever than I am.
Our favorite spot for a bit later in the season is now filled with trees and its going to be snag city. Biggest reason I overstocked this fall and also the reason I keep watching for sales.
