Jealous of you. Good looking tools.

I admire anyone with a musical instrument playing talent. Far as I got was DJing in college. I could dig for dusty break beats for hours though and my blends were seamless.
Wishd Idve learned the drums.

Here's my tune for the night.

Did my stint in a band for a year or so.... too much time needed and not enough 'me' to go around for both family nd band. I ended up like Radtexan with all the instruments in my basement (except for the drum set - digital piano as a stand in) and a digi multi-track recorder to make myself sound like the whole band. The mandolin and banjo are still my favorite sound but have always picked the ol' 6 string better. Looooooooove to write songs and figure music to go along. Wish i would pick up and play the instruments more often than what i actualy do. :-/

Interesting thread! I'm a musician myself. Main strength is singing but I play guitar and keyboards to accompany myself. Was in a band as a young 19 year old that opened for James Brown at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. That was so long ago that now I'm an old man (65) and Maple Leaf Gardens, concert venue and former home of the Toronto Maple Leafs hockey team no longer exists.

I have fond memories of the Rickenbacker I used to have in those days. We were a British style rock band. One of my favourite memories is taping the Beatles "Day Tripper" the first time it was ever played on Toronto radio. The band learned it well right away and we started performing it that evening. Fans thought it was our song and that we would rocket to stardom. They just assumed we had written it because no one had ever heard it until then. That is a fun memory for me. I presently play Taylor, Takamine and Guild guitars and have two Korg keyboards. Just started recording my music about a year ago. Having fun!

God Bless,
Don

Ok - hell with my whole post!!! Biggest thing we opened for was karoke night at the local street festival. lmao. James brown - WOW! And to have everyone thinking (if even just for a moment) that you were the originators of Day Tripper must have been a hoot!

Me too Russ,,,My coffee house gigs dont hold a candle to that !!!

Must have been alot of fun Don,JB was a classic.

I never did much professionally in my younger days.Played lots of parties, few (very)small club dates back then, but nothing more than friends, family and backyard picking in the next 30 years...The last 4 + years,my near 80 yo Father in Law found a few guys he liked to play with, and put together a little bluegrass band. They play twice a week at a couple of restaurants, and Im lucky enough to get to sit in with them once or twice a month..

My claim to fame is our band winning the McKinley High School Farm Fair Battle of the Bands. Only lasted thru high school '66 and my "lead guitar" was mostly bar chords, tho I did pluck "Day Tripper" and "The Last Time". Out here didn't know you needed a Rick and Vox to get the Brit sound - heck we started playing surf music!

And there was a gig playing for R&R grunts at the EM Club on Midway with our 2 gogo dancers the only females in the joint. At some point beer bottles and chairs started flying...luckily not at us.

But, bought a used Ibanez and Micro Cube on a whim a year ago and as you fellow oldsters know playing is different without the motivation of fame, fortune, & chicks.

Merle H's song made me remember my Dad taking me fishing.
