I picked up some black silicone type gasket stuff at the local hardware store to give it a try. I'm wanting to turn my walleye head mold into a collarless mold. This stuff will handle temps up to 500 deg and it stays pliable. Here's the outcome.

I poured all of these and the mold held up fine. On my 1/8 oz size I had some leakage around the eye of the hook and this took care of that.

Don't know how long that will work, lead is hotter than 500 degrees. Hope it does work out for you though.

Yea, it's a big dfference in making a little snip and trying to cut and mash the whole collar off.

Ron Don - Thanks, I didn't know about the red color. If I have problems with this, I'll check it out.

I used jb weld on mine, then used a fine file to cut a groove for my hook shank, but wish I would have thought about something like that!! I like the fact that it is flexible. may have to try that on the next mold!!

I started to use J B Weld on mine also but I was scared I'd screw something up and the silicone would be easier to remove.

Good idea with excellent results! How did you get the excess off the mold faces?

I just filled up the collar spaces and scraped the excess off with a straight edge. After it dries it's still soft so the hook just mashes down into the silicone when you close the mold.

Kinda wondered about that cause I didn't see a hook shank groove, and with the comment about the red being for higher heat?? Gonna leave that thought gotta pour jigs first.
