Figured out I would start new post instead of hijacking other post about crosscut rabbit hide.

The crosscut strips provide a tail material that is almost perfect for smaller jigs. In group picture I put a crane swivel that goes on the roadrunner jig and we all know how small those are.

They are super easy and fast to tie. All that is needed for a effective jig is just the rabbit and thread. You can add flash or other attention getting stuff. But I have found out it is not really necessary. The main secret to their success is the size. 1/64 oz and under.

The black line designates where I cut.

Forming the " V " where your hook is going to lie.

Finished jig thread cover with gloss head cement.

Another one

Group pix to show size and different variations. Tie some up and try them.

That is awesome!!!! I'd never be able to tie anything that small, I still have to wear magnifiers when doing the 1/48oz minnow heads.

Thank you very much, great pictures. Sometimes things are hard to see in this old minds eye.
I will be tying some of these for ice fishing.

Forgot to mention. Toughest part is to keep the skin from flopping around hook when first tying down. Laying thread base will help when first wrap go loose and gradually draw down tighter. After you tie a couple it will be an engrained habit.

For those of you who mentioned ice fishing. That is why I started to tie these. lots of anglers think you can't catch big fish on real small baits. But I know better.
Fish eat microscopic things thru the ice and probably during open water also. We can not tie something that we can't see. The smallest I have tied is 1/128 oz.
I quit tying those as the fish take them down too deep.

How big a fish will hit these ? I have had flatheads in a pond that could not fit thru an 8 inch hole in the ice. Most of the time they just broke off. But a few , very few at that, I was able to get my jig back with a hemostat while holding the cats face against the ice.

The oddest thing one of my mini jigs was used for was jewelry. A necklace to be exact. A father had his 8 year old daughter on the ice with him at Mosquito Lake.
She had expressed interest in ice fishing so Dad took her. They were about 30 yards away from me and I was hammering them. Dad was too much of a sportsman to bother me in the middle of combat. His daughter had no such compunction and walked over and asked what I was using. I gave her about 1/2 dozen and told her to go get her Dad and come over to get in on the fish. Had a good time for about 2 hours with them. When I left they packed up too and she thanked me for the CUTE little lures.

About 2 weeks later on a real bitter cold day I ran into her Dad again on the ice. He told me she talked her Uncle into enclosing the little jig in something and making a necklace out of it. I guess her Uncle was a jeweler of some sort. That was about 12 years ago. I often wonder if she continued ice fishing.
