The time is here for football to start, it is also time for my regular hair jig guys to start getting geared up for the cold water season. I have a lot of anglers that like using my weedless football jigs in the river, I used to just tie rabbit or buck tail and done but they were very effective but last November the game was changed by me being a member of this site. Last year Crappie Happy and AtticaFish both posted tutorials of how to make crawfish jigs, I loved them and so I tied a bunch of them until I found my style that would work. I gave a bunch away for guys to try and I tied some for myself as well and the results were awesome, not just me but just about everyone else who was using them. This jig is a weedless football jig painted dark watermelon with a 1/0 heavy wire hook. I have Cajun craw silicone skirt material along with black pearl flash tied in for the mustache and feelers and dark olive rabbit strips tied in for the claws. I used medium green antron chenille and some olive neck hackle to make the body and finish off the jig and I also made a smaller weedguard hole when I poured the head so it uses a 5/64" diameter FG-12 weedguard that helps keep it out of rocks while not doing anything to hurt hook ups.

Smalljaw you make a neat jig!!! I need to learn how to make and assemble those jigs. I have the molds, paint, hooks & weed guards. I need to make me a recipe of the other components to complete the jigs. I will lean toward brown and purple & red with orange. I have caught lots & lots of bass on my jigs but the ones you made look a lot better than mine. The rabbit fur for the claws is awesome. I bet your jigs at Lake Mead in Nevada would kick butt on the BM and SM bass.
I am kind of a jig freak also.

Nice craws smalljaw. I just need to learn how to fish them. Fished a kayak bass tournament last Saturday with only one bite... 9 1/2 hours of hard fishing using everything I had with me. LOL I told them I just needed to give away the money. Guy that won used a weightless worm but catch five keepers. I tried these type jigs working them on the bottom but know takers. Maybe I'm working them to fast??

Thanks for the kind words, I have a different ways to make them depending on the head but I learned the basic craw right here at Jig Craft from CrappieHappy and AtticaFish. StumpHunter, the deal with these jigs is to fish them slow, if a weightless worm was the ticket then a small hair jig probably would have produced too since they also fall slow but sometimes they just don't want a jig and that could be too. Jig-Guy, here is a kind of video tutorial I did for the craw jig and there is one there for a rabbit minnow also.
