Flat Head Jig I'm Experimenting With

In the spring I have great luck casting in the shallows using a flat bottom teardrop shaped Ice jig with rubber tubes. They are slow falling when your jigging it and they have a nice wiggle to them when you retrieve them. Anyway this is a variation of that. The head is a flat round plastic push pin that I trimmed down to its shape. I dipped it in nail polish then dipped twice in jig finish. I'm just playing around with the idea. I'm going to have to test it out. It will either sink or swim.

This one is for crappie or maybe bluegill. It is on a #4 hook but I think a #6 or even a #8 would be better suited for this. I don't have a mold for this. I snagged some push pins from my wife's sewing desk. They have a flat round plastic head on them. I trimmed one into a teardrop and painted and sealed it with jig finish to make it more durable. I tied it into the shaft like some people do with pins and metal beads. I wish I had a mold and the head was lead. The weight for this jig is from lead wrapped on the hook shaft. I don't have a scale but it is lighter than 1/32 I think.

Hmmmm..... played around with an idea similar to yours quite a while ago and your use of a thumb tack (with the pin to tie to the shank or jig hook leg) works perfect. I bet that does kick and jump around a lot! If you keep the tie on the back very sparse, you should get even more action from it. Keep it up!
