This is a repost from several other forums I'm active on. Just trying to get as many points of view and ideas as I can.

I think. A lot. Too much. I always have a "It'll Happen One Day" project I'm working on, it helps relax me. I'm currently working on plans for a non-profit fishing think tank w/ a research library and workshop/laboratory for children and adults.
What I have in mind is a community place for open research, investigation, and discussion of anything. luremaking/flytying to the best way to keep mud minnows, how simple scientific tests such as salinity, temperature, and dissolved oxygen can improve our fishing, re-examining ancient and traditional fishing methods and tools, etc..
What I would like from you guys is any ideas you have. Think of it like you had input into a place in yor community. What Equipment, Materials and Supplies would you want available. What events would you like them to host? Services provided. We're talk a dream place here so lets have fun. Thanks in advance guys and gals. I hope all of you find these cerebral projects such as this as much fun as I do. Maybe one day soon I'll be able to make it a reality.

You have found a good place then.

Just about everything mentioned has been discussed here. Not sure we covered the mud minnows yet ;)

Take a look around, no junk google ads or outside sponsors. We try to support our members and happy to let them show their wares. I've sold some clothes and stickers, but the word profit is pretty laughable.

Not a brick & mortar work area you can walk into here and pick up the tools but sure a lot of people who have and willing to help point you in the right direction and help you learn the right tools to use at least.

Research and development is the funnest part and we sure like to talk about it and show off our catches.

Bunch of us know how to fish and catch fish but we will also enjoy blowing smoke acting like we know the science behind why the fish bite. Reality is, can't catch fish from the laboratory, gotta get your line wet.

We have a board dedicated to vintage tools and tackle. Plus, we have JiggerJohn and LedHed to school us on all the ancient ways of fishing. :D ha!

All kidding aside, if you start browsing the pages here you will find a lot of what you are looking for. You will find a lot of BS too, but if you are a fisherman, you know that comes with the territory. I hope tto learn from you as well. Glad to have you on the site.

Thank you all for the welcomes and replies. I couldn't agree more about forums such as this one are an unparalled source of information. In fact I've learned so much just from browsing this particular forum, nevermind when I need to solve a particular problem to get what's in my head out into a physical item. In my "dream" I'm thinking more of a collaborative place where mentorships can develop naturally and more of a hands on teaching can take place.

You are definitely in the right place. Not many forums where pro. tyers are willing to share their trade secrets. Lots goes on in the private message world here, gonna have to give um a little time to get used to you. Everything considered, I spend as much time here as I do on all the others put together...

Now is as good a time as any to Thank Russ, Sonny and the rest of the moderators here. You guys do a fantastic job keeping this place up and running and SPAM free! THANK ALL YA'LL.... Thats plural here in Texas. :D

Hola from SoCal - welcome aboard. Like your idea of bringing the knowledge to the kids & curious - FREE!

Pretty much the reason for the inception of Jigcraft. Needed a site to go to where you didn't have to worry about hurting moderator's feelings, or sponsor's either, and you aren't bombarded with advertisements. We are extremely fortunate that we have a lot of talented members willing to stop in and share/help the novice and pro lure crafters.

Good luck on your venture.

Welcome & good luck

When you typed

how simple scientific tests such as salinity, temperature, and dissolved oxygen can improve our fishing

It reminded me of a book I read years ago. Read it 3 times just to understand it, because it reads like a biology txt. I suggest finding a copy to help your efforts.

Wow - never realized my old book was worth so much. Maybe you can find it in electronic format?
