I went back to try my luck Sunday after the rains had stopped. The bite was real slow, lots of wind and the traffic of bass boats running the lake kept the water rolling all day. Still managed to catch 9 good crappie with one 15'' pig. Water temp had dropped 6 degrees. Hand tied jigs didn't work but some sliders and curly tails took the slack.

Fine looking fish and even better looking fillets. Way to stick with it under adverse conditions. By the look of it the rewards were great.

Thanks guys, sometimes you really have to fish smart and try a few tricks to find a few biting fish. Hawns I tried down to a 1/32 but was as small as I could go in the 35' depths the fish were holding in. With the winds and boat traffic I was doing go to get a 1/16 down to them. We just received 2 1/2'' of rain late night and today and the temps are dropping into the 30's so the fishing will be tough the rest of the week, time to do a little catch up around the house this week and tie some more jigs to try next week.

The colors that worked were all over the color chart. These are the colors that caught the fish 1. black w/gold glitter with chart tail slider 2. junebug w/chart tail slider 3. pink/yellow body w/pearl tail 2'' curly tail 4. chart body w/white tail stroll's 2 1/2''
If you can see no color worked better than the other. The was fishing in hard stained water where the light colors should not have worked. So much for thinking we know what the fish want....

The eggs are almost ready to lay here. All the female fish I have caught are full of eggs. Also catching good size male crappie with the female so the male crappie hasn't moved shallow yet but they are starting to turn dark so they are just waiting on the water to warm just a little. I think the spawn will begin before the water reaches 60 degrees, water is right around 50 but these fish are holding in the last of the deep water in this lake.

Post frontal conditions can be challenging to find any fish willing to bite. I have been skunked more times than I care to admit fishing these conditions.Congrats on being able to figure something out that at least provided a tasty meal.
