After nearly stepping on a $200 rod in the dark, I decided to get some glow tape to wrap the tip and reel seat so I could see them while night fishing. After looking around at a bunch of reviews and doing a lot of research on glow time, brightness, flexibility and such I settled on this:
http://www.tapejungle.com/24-hour-ultra-premium-glow-tape-10-yd/
This stuff is the real deal! I took it out of the package around 5:30 just when the sun was already on the horizon behind the clouds, and it sat in the front seat of my car while I ran some errands. I charged it for a few seconds with my 365nm UV LED flashlight before I went to bed and left it in a dark room with no windows. It's now 22.5 hours later and the tape is still glowing.
Glows super bright for about 30 minutes after you charge it, then has a consistent soft glow that dims very slowly over the remaining time. They don't say what it's made out of, but I'm positive it's made from the same strontium oxide aluminate glow pigment as the high-end glow paints. Not bright enough to see bobbers at long distance, but I'm thinking it would be great for spinner blades and lures that have relatively flat areas like spoons and long crankbaits. It's about the same thickness as duct tape, and pretty flexible if placed in a plastic bag and soaked in hot water for a few minutes.
Only downsides are it's expensive and it only comes in white/green. I bought a 1/2" x 30 yard roll from eBay and it was almost $20. Totally worth it, though.
