Gave it a try huh buddy!!

I tried some more after the first couple failures

I got some PAS Easter Egg dying packs in the Neon colors and I tried pink, purple and green - well the tabs for pink and purple must have gotten mixed as they both turned out the same pink color. For some reason the green took to the stem but the color washed right out!!

Here's the pink and it gave me a nice big gallon bag.

Found some nice easy?? instructions on RIT liquid dye https://www.ritstudio.com/techniques/materials/feathers/ so I picked up 4 colors at Wally World - Dark Green, Purple, Sunshine Orange and Aquamarine.

RIT - Sunshine Orange

Sometimes my older camera doesn’t pick up purple but I did some Artic Fox and the re-done feathers are a bit darker than the fox

It's a good Idea to maintain a constant heat of 140 degrees while the product is in the dye bath . An hour and a half should show you marked improvement with the dye staying power .

I'm going to try some red fox tomorrow. I'm trying for a deep green color. I'm thinking I'm going to try a peroxide bleach then rinse and go with rit dye, unless I can find a green hair dye. Any thought's to using a hair dye? Seems to me it might last longer, especially if the gray isn't growing through it. ;) My better half thought I was being a wise crack when I said that.
Looking over my shoulder I see she has slipped off to bed, so yes I was being a wise crack. :D

I tried the hair dye today and that's a once in a lifetime event for me. I honestly don't see how my girls do this to themselves. I purchased an emerald green blast. I did not use the bleach out in the kit. I used a piece of red fox that was fairly dark. I'm trying to achieve a very dark green.temporary-737.jpg
I like the way the red tips did not take the dye. And the color is very close to what I was hoping for.
This next pic is of the same hide but I used a Kelly Green Rite Dye.
It is much easier to work with and much much easier to clean up the mess.

I also dyed some duck flank today Kelly Green and Navy Blue both Rite Dye

So my mix is as follows
1 bottle liquid Rite Dye
Refill twice more with hot water
1/4 cup white cider vinegar
Table spoon of salt.
Mix well Micro for an additional minute on high
add feathers/ fur and sit in bath for 1 hour
remove and let dry. Hint put feather on a cloth or old shirt to dry they will dry twice as fast. After a couple hours I rinsed in warm water and achieve the results.
Personally form past dying experiences I have found the powder dyes seem to work better. Especially the Tulip tie dye packets at Walmart. I went this morning but they were sold out.
I've dyed a ton of chenille over the years but today was the first for fur and feathers. I'll probably next time use the peroxide bleach out material then set the Tulip Dye from Walmart for more of a solid color result.

These are some hair I dyed last year using Koolaid. I would bring the water to just under a boil and add the Koolaid, mix well then add the hair keeping the same heat range and cook for 10 minutes then take off the heat and let it set for another 10 minutes.

Two quarts of water and two packs of Koolaid

Q

Could be the salt and vinegar, Rit doesn't call for it with the liquid dyes and I sent them an email asking that before I tried it.

I'm trying the dark green right now.

Dark green Rit dye 1/4 cup and I put it in the 2 qt tall jar then heat water on the stove till it just starts bubbling

You got some excellent green out of that fur Fatman. I was thinking the fox might not take the color that well and turn out a dirty brown.
