Started playing around with standoff hooks tying a fly for drop shotting.

In another thread Bucho gave me an idea for making the fly a little different. He suggested using a nylon loop for bottom leg to make fly stand out from main line. I still may us that idea, but these I started experimenting with are made by cutting a hook in two to use the eye portion for a drop leg.

These are not finished products but are somewhat I aim to
intend to try. Had fairly good luck using the drop shot method last year. Mostly with live bait and a little bit of plastics. Middle one is tied like I am going to use. Will be using two fly rig 12 inches apart and bottom one about 12 inches up from bottom.

That´s a brilliant idea, these look way better than the ones with the big red standoff hook! Especially the one in the middle, thats is a real beauty!

There are many waters over here where pike wire for lure fishing is mandatory. That sort of asks for a hard point on top - to fix your wire at - and another one below, to accept the weight line. I once asked a guy why he would use self-tied streamers for his zander flyrodding in the summer on the one hand but store-bought plastics for his winter dropshotting, and he said it was because they were easier to exchange.

Thinking about it, using a cut off jig hook might double the keel leverage and at the same time offer a very stable hard point for the weight line. Speaking of 1-2 ounce lead weights to cross the 100 yard kiel canal, hell yeah! :D
Plus, that would be a perfect platform to glue massive eyes upon.

That's a sweet idea! You definitely need to post some success pictures. I think that is a great idea for a teaser/trailer fly as well, say below a top-water lure, crankbait, or even below or above a jig. It looks like it should always ride hook up with no tangles. I'm gonna try my hand at this for sure.
