Have any of you guys used the Dragonfly Powder Paint from Pro-tec and if so what colors do you use for the body and tail?

When i got in the dragonfly color and tapped it on a jig, it reminded me alot of this combo which sure looks great.....

Have found that if you put a very light coat of pearl on first so it gives it some color but doesn't totally cover the head when it re-heats, then put on the dragonfly...... brightens it up a LOT.

Len, that picture is dark, the color is actually pretty bright, I have some bright melon and chartreuse silicone material that works good with it but for hair I use a flourescent blue with some chartreuse and green flash.

My buddy bought some, and I have about 2 dozen heads pai nted with it..... but haven't tied much with it yet. I tied one with a brown/copper body and chartreuse tail and like how it turned out. Buddy likes a chartreuse body and black tail??

I have some of it but i really dont have many combos for it. Its a pretty paint. I mainly use it as a base or topcoat.

I got some of the Dragonfly Powder today and the jig on the left is dipped right into jar and the one on the right has a base coat of pearl white...Maybe just need to tap the paint on.

I have bought some from CA and have used it primarily with black chartreuse. The color I got from CA was more of a purple hue.........

The ties look good - another popular color is to throw in silver along with blue and chart.

Have personally never been able to get good results from dipping heads in any of the Pro-Tech premixed glitter/candy colors like the dragonfly, copperhead, junebug, rootbeer, etc. Mine always come out either gobbed up with glitter only in certain spots or hardly any glitter at all. Tapping works better for me..... but i do dip the pearl base, just takes a time or two to get it the right temp so it is super thin layer.

BTW - the picture you posted, i like how the one WITHOUT the pearl base looks. In the picture, it comes out with a reflective look. But i also know that if you put on the candy color lightly over the pear you still see the glittery look of the pearl which does not show up well in any photos. Like 'em both. Tomaytoe - Tomahtoe :P

Attica I read on TU that alot of folks really aren't liking the pre-mixed stuff - it's like you said glitter clumped up.

I had that happen with my clear and black glitter but that's more my fault went with your you always use more glitter than you think and didn't have enough clear!!! but I do now!!!LOL

No no no - I LOVE some of the Pro-Tech and CA candy/glitter premix colors - just have to tap them on with a brush or i can't get a consistent look. My own candy creations (color/clear/glitter mixes) turn out the same and only tap them on, same with just plain glitter/clear mixes. I am pickier than the fish tho.

Sorry Mis-read. I opened up two IE windows and put the pic of the dragon fly powder on one and then Columbia Coatings to see if I could match it up, but they have alot of shades of powder and it's gonna take a while.

I really like the jigs!!!! I will admit that I loved the look of the glitter colors but had the same problem Attica had. The worst was trying to use them in a fluid bed, that was bad but I now have a good way of dealing with it, you need to use a jar to keep the glitter from seperating out too much and you need some room, maybe an 1" or a little more, if I'm doing 1/8oz ball heads I can give it a good shake and get 3 or 4 jigs at most before I need to reshake it. If I do that it comes out pretty good but if you want to paint more than 20 heads it becomes a pain. Now when I spry my powder I get a good ditribution of flake and color, it works really well when you use clear with flake mixed in but unless you have a way to reclaim it like I do you will lose some.

This is a nickle plated head and the tapping of the powder works alot better for the dragonfly powder...
