I don't know how many of y'all hunt, but September 1 is better than Christmas for this guy.... and it fell on a Saturday this year! September 1 means dove season opens, and I try to hit it hard the first week, because without fail we get good front and/or some rain and the birds all leave by the second weekend.

Yesterday, I went out with my dad and the youth pastor from church. He had never shot birds before, but has a shooting background.... dad played guide and helped Brian out. Man did he have fun! I ended up with a dozen, and I think Brian had 8 or 9.

Tonight after supper (KC strips!) I went out and got my limit of 15. Man do I love this time of year!!!

Tailgate shot of tonight's birds. There are 18 in the pic.... grandpa came out for the last couple volleys and scratched out three for himself.

Solo hunt tonight... had a front moving through, and scratched out 7. When I got to the pond, there was a doe feeding in the beans about 75 yards away. She circled downwind and stood in the plowed field looking at me. That crap will catch up with her in December. Then the doe with twin fawns came out in the beans and ate for awhile..... was a beautiful night!

Doug, I don't have the patience to skin a dove! I imagine you could make some gorgeous BWO or sulpher soft hackles with them......

Yeah you sure can Zac!!!!!!!!!! Can't be any worse than a partridge (I've done those) or pheasant, never only cause you had to pay to go after them in western NY at the game farm.
