I have a bunch of lead slab baits that are driving me absolutely crazy . These things must have been poured in a pop mold or a worn out silicone mold . Short of tossing them or remelting I need some Ideas .
1 I've primered them 3 times and the lead if so rough it still shows through .
2 I have acidized them before primer and the paint is not adhering well just in spots .
3 I am forced to use vinyl paint . Outside of killing me I can't seem to find out what chemical to use for a retarder so I don't have to order the expensive stuff . The Folks at CSI aren't talking . With the heat and humidity the stuff starts to degas before you can hang it up from the dip . That leaves little ocean waves on an already Sh1++y lure surface .
4 I need one of you guys to come kick my a$$ for getting into this .
Now don't everybody jump on that at once . One good whoop'in will serve me fine .

I agree. It's bad enough doing a bunch of smooth ones.Mutiply that by maybe a couple times makes it a downright downer to even go out and try to make them look good. When you are doing something that is working and looking good, you have the strength to keep going. When you are doing something that is'nt coming out nice while doing it,just makes you want to throw them across the room at times.

Toad short of putting them on a buffing wheel to smooth them out with a vac sucking the dust up, unless they have some sentimental value melt em down and recast unless you don't have the mold.

Well I already chunked one through the sheet rock . Scratch that one . These were shipped to me . I don't have a mold to do them they are custom style . The guy would like to save them because he needs them like yester month . He sent them to me because he has faith in me pulling off a mess like this . I did buff them after i used a razor blade to scrape them enough to get the freak'in burrs off . I used a coarse pad from a floor scrubber cut down to fit a grinder plate holder . Another crazy idea that worked out pretty good . Took a whole day to do all that . The MFG retarder is like 30 bucks a pint .I'm not paying that when I know It has to be a specific chemical I can get for 16 bucks a gallon . Acetone thins vinyl and is an excelerant . (wish I could spell ) I've been stubborn and gone to far to turn back now . Reputation is kinda on the line .

Nope he thinks vinyl is tougher than powder . But he is about to give up on that after I showed him the kind of coverage he was getting with vinyl . I'll finish these up then tell him vinyl is out powder is in . Been trying to find somebody to do a mold worth using but no takers yet .

Send one to Redear!! He might be up to the challange - he's been making some single cavity molds for jig heads maybe he could come up with something.

Even wearing a respirator mask the fumes are still going to bother you - got rid of the stuff I had years ago, caused to many migraines.

yeah it would take a ton of vinyl paint to cover a slab spoon, as far as making a mold for it, my equipment wouldn't do it, it would take some serious pressure to press a slab spoon. best to find a mold or have one cut.

I got it whipped those suckers are going to leave hear Monday never to return until a mold is made . If I had 6000 I could drop for a Smithy mill drill I could crank out a mold or 2 myself . Found one a guy may loan me or trade to me . He won't be back for 2 weeks . If I get it Jig craft may just have there own exclusive mold maker . Hows them apples .
