Digging the satin

I've been reading the thread about Red and his wool and satin jigs. I've paid it to read to page 23 so far and I decided I gotta try this. I went to Joann's and found the satin, but couldn't find the wool. I decided, I wanted to see how the satin would look and I gotta say, I really like it! I'll be trying some different colors. I only bought a small amount of white because it's not a 100% satin. I still think it looks great. Very iridescent.

Good work.....getting wool at w.lavender-rabbit.com Small bag goes a long way. I found a local sheep farm an going over this month before they shear if I can get some good stuff on the cheap

Yep, the white satin shades are almost magic on Spring trout,crappies,bass, and bluegill ! Red & I like to look for white "brocade" patterns at JoAnns that are bright white with gold or silver patterns within-the strands yield both the easy action satin fibers along with bright flash already in place! Actually as Red has pointed out (rather his wife,Linda, who is the JoAnns shopper!) almost any specie of minnow/bait can be found in these MANY satin styles& patterns if you search. This winter my wife brought me a terrific "baby perch" pattern when accidently looking at the BACK of a red brocade bolt -been tyin' baby perch ever since!!

very nice look to that jig. Satin is fun to use with wool or craft fur I have not used it on bou. I did not get to experiment a whole lot with the wool jigs last fall but was pleased with their production the couple times I used them prior to the fish wanting nothing but a small jig. The wool you order from Joanns may be a touch pricey but it is very dense and high quality. I purchased some roving off of ebay that works but not as thick. I purchased some purple off a vendor on ebay that was super dense and came in a big braided piece I need to see if they offer any other colors.

This satin at Joann's is it yarn or what?

It's cloth! I get mine at Hobby Lobby. 6 inches "long" by the width of the bolt of fabric is the smallest they will sell. Once you get it home, cut off a small "patch", and start unraveling the cloth. The resulting fibers are kind of like Krystal Flash, but more flexible.

Here's a picture. Take the cloth and with your finger and thumb work it loose. Don't tug on it though. Just pull a few stand at a time.
