Hopefully someone here has the answer, Looking for a hook, not light wire, buddy would rather loose a jig than have the hook bend, Size 6 and Size 4. Been looking at a few, but seems like the heavy duty hooks start at 1/0 and go big.

Any suggestions? I think the folks that steelhead fish may have the answers.

Thanks in Advance.

Same here.... i don't like bendy hooks.

Think the ones i get custom poured for me are the Mustad 32833BLN. Sharp suckers and go down to size 8 or 10 i believe. Think it might require a mold adjustment to fit the larger wire and leg to eye might be shorter also......?

I'm a fan of that VMC hook that Hawnjigs uses with his steelhead ball jigheads. It's short shank/wide gap and is really strong. I also have lots of experience using the Mustad steelhead hook that Hawnjigs sells, and I can tell you, they don't bend....

Hey Creeky, do you play the sax or guitar? And does your wife do your laundry?

Kdog, the VMC is 60* and I don't think available anymore. Matzuo 3x appears to be a knock off of the 32833, and look pretty decent with a few typical Matzuo slightly twisted eyes which can be repaired. Currently, the 32833 #6 & #4 are over $80 per 1,000 + SH from Shorty's so the Matzuos at $50 shipped are a deal.

Re: Airstreamfield's suggestion of EC 630 type hooks: I used to use em a lot before black nickel chem sharp hooks were available, but gladly switched to Gamakatsu 604 #2(#4 bite gap) then rejoiced when the Mustad 32833 came out in smaller sizes.

Problem with the 630 style was the bite gap was IMO too narrow and the shank proportionately too long. Didn't fit short plastics too well and contributed to sketchy hooksets. The relatively soft Eagle Claw temper seemed bendy in #4 & #6 for a supposed heavy wire hook.
