Good article and information. I tie with ultra 70 mostly even with some baits up to a #2. Bass jigs get a 140. Some 140's appear to be thinner than others. Danville's Flymaster + 140 feels thinner to me than 140 Wapsi Ultra thread and since it's also cheaper I've switched over to the Danville 140. I'm staying with the Ultra 70,good stuff.

This is good information, myself I tie almost everything with 210 denier Wapsi Ultra Thread and more recently I switched over to the Danville Flymaster 210. The Ultra thread has been very good but it has been seperating on me and the breaking strenght has been poor which is why I switched and I like the way the Danville handles. I drop to 140 for the smaller minnow heads and I know I should go down even further but it hasn't been a problem so I will continue to use it. I vote for a standard fly tying thread size guide because there have been places where I wanted to try their thread but they have sizing I never heard of like size "A" and "D" and the "aughts" are pretty easy to understand.

There's a chart and I'd have to find it that lists all the deniers of popular threads and what is equal to what I'll find it at home and post it up.

Good info guys. Thanks for posting them. I have thread from 70 denier to 210 and also use 8/0 uni threads. Also use upholstery nylon thread that works great on bigger jigs from 1/8 up.
